Could be Pioneer OEM according to the writing graph. 18x -/+ recording, 14x DVD-RAM writing. Not much news outside China.

Re: Asus DRW-1814BLT (18x -/+, 14x DVD-Ram)

ASUS sells them, should be a Pioneer 112/212 rebadge.
14x DVD-RAM makes no sense IMO, because not even 12x RAM media is available. The highest is 5x here.

Re: Asus DRW-1814BLT (18x -/+, 14x DVD-Ram)

I don't think it is a rebadged Pioneer 112 (or whatever!) because model name does not include (P) as in previous Asus rebadged Pioneers (1604P , 1608P , 1608P2 , P2S and 1608P3S) .
Asus DRW-1612BL (1612BLT SATA model) was not reported to be a Pioneer and it is also new and no one has it yet , following Asus naming scheme I would assume that 1814BLT is just a refresh of 1612BLT with 18X DVD-+R and 14X RAM (which is moot) .
So , will there be a 1814BL model without T (EIDE - ATA) drive ?
I would really like to know more about new Asus models .

Re: Asus DRW-1814BLT (18x -/+, 14x DVD-Ram)

Hmm. If Imation also sell 12x DVD-RAM (as implied by the pics) there is some hope, _chef_!
But as Imation have different product palettes in different countries, this may be limited to Singapore, Taiwan, or Japan.
However I'm not sure whether overspeeding DVD-RAM will give good results. The only overspeeding of phase-change media without awful results is 10x/12x CD-RW.

Isn't Pioneer using Labelflash instead of Lightscribe? If so then it doesn't seem likely that this is a rebadged Pioneer.

Well the DVR-111C supports Lightscribe, but has additional hardware.

Someone in pcdvd forum mentioned that it's using Mediatek chipset & it's designed internally by Asus. How true is that i'm not sure.

Asus DRW-1612BL is already selling in Taiwan. Just need someone to buy & open it.

The 1612 BL is still not avaible here. In Cdrlabs I read it could be a rebadged LG.

Of course it is not but that was the only similar drive available at the time of posting.

You can edit your posts to merge 2 together, didn't you know?

Re: Asus DRW-1814BLT (18x -/+, 14x DVD-Ram)

The Asus DRW-1612BL is available in Romania. I have one and it works pretty well... except for the one Verbatim DVD+RW 4X I have that it seems to not be very compatible with (it is a MKM 004... i think). I would post some quality scans but I have only this as far as dvd burners go and it isn't made for quality scans (no jitter detection)

The DRW-1814BLT is listed on the German Asus page: http://www.asus.de/products4.aspx?l1...88&modelmenu=1
And there are already some online stores listing that drive.

1814BLT is on the here shelf now. CAV 14X DVD-RAM, though sounds faster, performs the same time as BenQ 1800(or Liteon 18A1P).

http://www.cdbest.net/cdvd/test/cdvd...2213020_3.html
In addition, it's really a MTK internal with ASUS design. I know it's a 1612BL, but you get the point. You can't match 1814 14X RAM to Pioneer 112 or any burners on the market.

Re: Asus DRW-1814BLT (18x -/+, 14x DVD-Ram)

YSS and others posted some information on this drive on his BBS.
1) Drive uses Medaitek MT 1899LE but can not be used with KProbe2.5.2.
2) Does not work with DVDINFOPro 4.268.
3) Does not work with DVDScan 0.04beta.
4) Does work with Nero CD-DVD Speed 4.7.0.2 but reports PIE and POE instead of PIE and PIF. It also wont scan for jitter.
5) Unable to burn DVD+/-R at 6x.
6) Bitsetting of DVD+R and +RW works in Nero CD-DVD Speed.
7) No 18x writing to TYG03.
8) 14x writing to Maxell 12x is possible but writing to 12x Media is fixed at 14x.
9) Max reading speed of Maxell 12x DVD-RAM is 12x

I would say it's a drive that needs further firmware tweaking.
btw, I saw many 1612/1814 in my area.
