Success at bitsetting previously burned +RWs

I have been using the 218btrpc1 firmware for NEC 3500 for quite some time. It is one of the few firmwares that support bitsetting in +RWs.

I tried to change the booktype of a previously burned +RW, by doing both Quick & Full formats using Nero & Alcohol. This was unsuccessful.

I then tried both the Fast & Full format commands in DVD Info Pro, and to my surprise, was successful in alterning the book type on 35 previously burned +RWs (RICOHJPNW01 2.4X & RICOHJPNW11 4X) so that they now have a book type of DVD ROM.

After burning an image to a newly formatted DVD, I was able to play it back in my old 4 year old APEX which had an allergic reaction whenever a +RW was inserted.

I don't understand why everyone has given up on changing the Book Types of +RWs in the NEC 3500.

We didn't give up, and this information has been in the Big NEC FAQ for a few days now.
But the firmware also has to support this, many new NEC firmwares dont.
Also, some modified firmware has this problem sorted.

Unfortunately, like most other people, I wasn't as lucky as you to be able to do that on FW 218btrpc1, and trust me, I've tried everything (including DVDInfo Pro).

However the bad days are over, since Dee managed to fix this problem in her FW 2.TA. Now anyone can change their booktype to DVD-ROM even on already used DVD+RWs. Have a look at her FAQ for this FW and follow those two steps and after you do that once, it will work like a charm on any DVD+RW ... and of course as a bonus you get the latest 2.FC strats and some speedups ...

EDIT: it seems I was a bit too late ...

Re: Success at bitsetting previously burned +RWs

Atilla,
I tried DVDInfoPro on my 3520A and Dee's 1.u6 firmware. I set all booktypes to -ROM using WinBTypeV2. I don't have any virgin +RW's. Used +RW will not bitset to -ROM with this firmware. It's really quite silly, probably a firmware bug. It's disappointing compared to Lite-On tools which can easily change used +RW disc to -ROM.
