Also for reference I have already tried binflash to see if I can dump the firmware. But it was not able to detect the drive.

I think it was already tried before, but the commands that work to retrieve data from DVD burners don't work on this drive. So without getting a firmware from somewhere else we probably cannot do much at all.

Ahh I see.

So basically I just need to wait for Optiarc to release a new firmware update on this page? http://www.sonynec-optiarc.eu/en/sup...loads/blu-ray2

It would at least be a good beginning.

Hi Liggy,

I just noticed that new firmware has been released for the BC-5500S.

http://www.optiarc.eu/en/support-ser...loads/blu-ray2

This should be a first good step in getting the drive unlocked right?

Unfortunately this firmware is encrypted and I do not know how to decrypt it.

I realize this is more than one month old now, but have you been able to flash your Optiarc drive using the firmware found on the vendor website (or a hacked version of it)? I have the same drive and same problem.

Thanks,
Marc

Hi Marc,

I tried the firmware on my drive and it didn't work! Oh well, it just said update failed. I do have an Asus laptop and it said that it doesn't work for OEM drives, I guess I'll have to look out for the update from Asus, or maybe another OEM manufacturer.

And no I haven't managed to find any hacked versions of firmware for this drive. I've barely been able to find any mention of this drive at all. I guess it is too new.

Hi Liggy

Any updates on this BD problem, I myself have a BC-5500A which I would like to liberate from the shackles of RPC.
