| Help !!! my friend Built a pc for me and i have manged to sort everything out bar one thing my DVD writer. When i put any DVD-Rw or DVD R discs it states there is no free room on the disc! But acording to Alcohol 120% system info my computer can Read/Write to DVD - so why does my computer still fail to recognise the format of the dics? IS it my drivers for the DVD writer, is it my settings? What could it be? Any help would be really appreciated! |

| Welcome to the forum  I think you may find Alcohol is the culprit, not the drive  In Alcohol's Settings, go to Emulation, and make sure "Ignore Media Type" is not checked. Otherwise it'll show all writable media as -ROM. Hope that helps.

| Ouch. And I was sure it was Alcohol's settings  Could you run Nero InfoTool, save the result as a text file, and post it here? Remembering to remove your serial It might help others to help too if we can see what's going on software-wise. Is it just DVDR/RW that's having this problem? Do pressed (store bought) DVDs play OK?

| Daemon Tools is emulation software, creates a virtual drive on your PC. People use it for playing games without having to put the CD in or to play games from an image, that kind of thing. This is why there are often settings in there that make writable media look like -ROM discs - so the game or whatever can't tell it's a backup Before you consider uninstalling it, search Google for "complete uninstall of Daemon Tools" or something like that, as bits can be left behind, with the disc access problem still remaining even after uninstall.

| If it's linked to another program you have, I'd leave it be. If you know what version of Daemon Tools you have, you could try reinstalling it over the top of your current DT install. Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel might list the version of Daemon Tools. And you're welcome

| I'm kinda of out of ideas now  ...only things I can suggest are a clean reinstall of Windows (verifying the drive can recognise blanks and burn DVDs OK before installing Alcohol/Daemon Tools), or trying the burner in another PC.

| I think it's time experts in this sub-forum should investigate. Clean installation of Windows wouldn't solve this issue. Revert to 1.02 official firmware didn't solve the problem either. On my PC, when I load a +R DL, XP says no disc; when I load a -R, XP says empty.

| It looks like a NEC issue. I have tried fresh installed XP with no Daemon or Nero or any other CD/DVD burning software. NEC simply could not read my DVD-R and DVD+R DL. This is situation happened after June 20.
