NEC / Optiarc Writer Discuss, Optiarc AD-7200A/S, AD-7201A/S, AD-7203A/S Results & Discussion at CD, DVD and Blu-ray Writers forum; I thank you for your response, and I think you may correct. I just hate to have to buy 2 drives just because the manufacturers can't get their act together and make a drive that does both well. But I see what you're saying, and I just might do what

    no problem man ,u r welcomed
    IMO: scanning with any ODD makes it age sooner cause u force it to use a lesser speed than it's max hence consuming more time of the drive's age
    so even the lite-on drive i like a lot in terms of burning even if it's capable of scanning (ie:20A3S) i don't use for scanning at all

    and any way it's better to have a spare in case of the other fails for any reason

    My Sony 7200A will be here in a few days.

    I'm wondering how you guys in Europe can have a drive RMA'ed just on the basis of a poor scan, the disc being readable to the end.

    A supplier paid me to take one of these drives off his hands (well almost, it was so cheap ).

    Seems to be better than the last SATA drive. Manufactured one month before that last one and came with 1.06. Still can produce high jitter at higher speeds with some media but a lot of the current drives seem to be the same. The disc with the high jitter still reads fine at 18x.

    but this jitter thing looks really suspicious
    are u putting it on a sata raid card or some thing that can impair the drive capabilities

    No, standard mobo SATA & IDE. I even tried both drives in an external USB enclosure (just in case it was a powersupply issue) and got virtually the same results as when connected internally.

    This drive is heaps better than the SATA drive. Even 12x burning with the SATA drive was terrible and interestingly, it was getting worse. I hope it's not a sign of things to come with these drives.

    well i guess u have the worst luck with this drives than any one here or i know

    i think u should try them on another rig
    may be the prob is a controller driver or some thing in the OS

    i really hate to see u not getting the great result we have of this drives

    this is the worst jitter i got from these drives CK
    MBI disks tend to have higher jitter any ways in at all speeds and ODD's


    sure u have something wrong
    i have 4 drives of the 7200s (3 OEM's anda Sony clone) all the same
    and all came with 1.06 firmware (and diff manufacture dates cause i didn't get them all at the same time)
    the Sony came with 1.6 Firmware

    well that verb at 16x is nice
    although the jitter at the end gets a little high but still a good one

    i still love the 72xxx drives better than the really over rated SAMSUNG SH-203B

    My Sony DRU-840A burns faster and better than this drive at 16x and below, especially with all patches.
