I just got my 7200A today, is it normal that after the tray is closed without a cd, and right when the computer starts for this drive to make a strange sound, like 3 similar and spaced "scratches" right before the led goes off?

yeah, i think it's normal. the sound you hear is the round rotating thing (that spins the cd's) rotate, but it rotates really fast, because there is no cd to inhibit the speed... hence the "whoosh" sound.Quote:Originally Posted by AlleyViper

Oh, thanks. I've had 2 NECs (3500/7173) before but that dry spin was never so noisy or strange sounding, as if there were parts scratching!
