This series of drives have NO riplock. Even if it did have riplock it wouldn't take anywhere near 4 hours to rip a disc.

Three things spring to mind here.
1, Your SATA/IDE controller is not in DMA mode, or you have serious system configuration problems.
2, The media is defective and the drive is struggling to read the disc.
    3, The drive is defective

Can you run a CD-Speed (burst rate test) and post a screenshot?

    4 hours sounds like either:

    a) you're shrinking a DVD

    or

    b) your system does not play well with SATA optical drives, and the drive is stuck in a sort of PIO mode

EDIT: Dee beat me to it.

Are you using it to re-encode DVDs to a video format suitable for iPod, WMV, DivX, etc?

This is where the 4 hours comes into play. To speed things up, you would need to increase raw processing power/processing efficiency.

    @headphase
We run ripping and transcoding tests on our drive reviews.

Checkout this page for tests on this series of drives.
    http://www.cdfreaks.com/reviews/Opti...hors-page.html

Look for the following section on the page.
    CSS Encrypted DVD-Video ripping tests:

Of course, it could be your DVD-Video has a different copy protection scheme, one that your ripping/transcoding software has problems with.

[EDIT] BTW: In your CD-Speed screenshot. The burst rate is way to low, which would suggest you have some issues with your SATA controller. Check in your system BIOS that RAID is disabled and SATA mode is set to "emulate IDE/IDE mode".

System BIOS settings would be supplied in the manual for your motherboard. You would normally enter the BIOS settings screens at post boot by pressing the DEL key, before the operating system (Vista) starts to load.

Ok, I changed the sata from RAID to IDE and Vista did not like it. Will AHCI work?
