Was looking downtown for a replacememt for my Liteon 1693S yesterday after some strange noises from the drive spinning up last week.
Found out that the store from the webshop where I saw the 25 euro bargain for the DH-20A1P wasnt there anymore
The guy from another computerstore told me that they gone rupt and only wer selling on the web these days.
So for the 1st time in my life after a couple of Philips and quite some Liteon burners I bought me an NEC : the AD-7200A for 26 euro's.
The fact that Sony went together with NEC and the salesman gave me 10 old stock Ritek GO4's (wooohooo)for free convinced me.
I wil keep you guys informed about this great deal and send in some scans in the near future.

YUDEN000T02 (Unbranded printable from SVP UK)
    Burn speed 16x
    Firmware Liggy's 101bt

Also checked that Bitsetting was working ok.

Excellent result considering the disc was burned at twice its rated speed.

The slight slowdown improved jitter on that disc.

Well, it would. Lower speed generally means lower jitter. It wasn't that high anyway.

This drive reminds me the good old days of 35xx series. But I hope it's a better reader.
It gives me an idea of what to vote at Top 5 optical drives poll.

The rare high PIF spikes look like those of Pioneer 112/212. Are they of the good ones or the evil ones?

Cant see pics with Firefox, only with IE it works

But TBH, the writing-quality is not amazing, no real challenger for a Pioneer

If you can't see the scans, how can you tell.
And it is a serious challenger. Its faster than the Pioneer and the results i've had so far beat my DVR-112 and DVR-115D.

Probably doesn't help. Actually, I try to make the first burn with known good media that won't tax new hardware too much, and to make sure that the drive is performing properly. [I've a preference of YUDEN000 T02, since it fails the least. ].

It doesn't look SO bad, but do you have a LiteOn, BenQ, Plextor, or Samsung with which you can scan that disc? I'm not sure if there is a final verdict on how these drives scan in comparison to other makes.

Nope,no other drive to scan, since my 1693S made some strange "kgg, kgg" noises spinning up before a burn last week (see my reply at the top of this page) I put it in my sons computer so he can watch dvd's on that one.
He doesnt use it for burning just for playing.

But I,ll make a MCC004 burn and scan with the 7200A today to see how that one turns out.

8x burn done with my new AD-7200A on MCC004.
    MCC004 is 16xDVD+R media,could burn it with the 7200A 18x though

2nd burn so far on my AD-7200A.
Except for the 14 PI spike it looks ok 2 me.
Hope it'll keep burning and reading like this

An excellent burn in my opinion - considering that it was even scanned on the Optiarc and not on a LiteOn.
