Optiarc 7241S Pending?

Just noticed that ZipZoomfly has a listing for a Sony Optiarc AD-7241S-0B, with LightScribe. The listing says it's out of stock, but gives a price of $34.99 and the option to be notified when it's in stock. So maybe a LightScribe version is just around the corner. Here's the listing.

liggy according to what i've read the labeflash tech does not need a special hardware. so is it possible to gain this fuctionality with firmware crossflash?

If you find someone who provides you with a tool to do so, then it's likely you are able to crossflash.

However I will not publish such a tool and I'm not sure if anyone else does. Right now I'm unable to access the drive's firmware (or even bootcode) at all. Due to licensing issues we cannot support this kind of crossflash on CDFreaks at all.

A (Labelflash) NEC Optiarc 7243S? I've actually seen traces of this in some European webshops, but noone has them in stock/described properly yet.

I'm about to post to my favorite online shop a question about when they'll be listing/stocking these, and as soon as I see one for sale, it will be on it's way to me.

As to GDRIVERs question about upflashing a 7200 - I don't think it can be done, or at least I am not aware of it having been done. It can for the ND 3550-4551 series, but I think the mods would be mad if I gave details. Suffice to say that somewhere a procedure is offered for that purpose, and that it should work if properly executed.

The shops that I've seen expect the 7241S and 7243S for May. Even the 7240S with a silver bezel doesn't seem to arrive this month.

It is OK to say that crossflashing between the different models can be done, but we do not want to see instructions or links to them. I know for sure that the 7200 can be crossflashed since Dee and I tested this ourself (7203 to 7200 though but should work the other way round too) but at least the guy who offered tools for previous drives does not have anything for the 20x series.
