| Nero 9 - Power Calibration Error w/ Sony AD-7240S Hello all, I am in the middle of a short run duplication project (yes, completely legal, no bootlegging here) of about 500 DVD+R DL discs. I have been doing this type of thing for years whether CD or DVD, but this time I am having multiple burning issues with different devices. I'll keep things tidy and post different threads in their appropriate forum. I just picked up 5 Sony AD-7240S drives. When using Nero 9 to burn to all 5 targets, I am getting a "Power Calibration Error" on one of the drives almost every time. I can burn to just this one drive solo and haven't seen the error yet. When this error is given, the burn finishes and the disc seems to play perfectly fine (but should I toss it anyway?). Any idea what this error is all about? And do you think this drive is bad? |

| Re: Nero 9 - Power Calibration Error w/ Sony AD-7240S If it doesn't happen regularly, I believe it is caused by low quality media. I generally recommend Verbatim (preferably Singapore-made) when it comes to DVD+R DL, it is more expensive than Memorex etc., but it's the most compatible.

| Re: Nero 9 - Power Calibration Error w/ Sony AD-7240S I had the same problem with my 7240. I got power calibration errors with any brand DL +R discs (the error occurred during the "finalising disc" stage). The discs were fully readable on PC drives, but on standalone players the 2nd layer was unreadable. You should definitely toss the drive and the discs you burned with it. |

| Re: Nero 9 - Power Calibration Error w/ Sony AD-7240S Using Philips DVD+R DL 8X media. I think it is made by CMC. I generally use higher quality media. I think even Ritek may be better? I love Verbatim and TY, but I had to put my order in for media and it was the only silver shiny DVD+R DL that Meritline had in stock. |

| Re: Nero 9 - Power Calibration Error w/ Sony AD-7240S CMC-made DL is ok, but not the greatest. To rule out a compatibility issue, it might be worth trying a pack of Verbies.

| Re: Nero 9 - Power Calibration Error w/ Sony AD-7240S Thanks for the info. I am currently burning to multiple targets with Alcohol 120%. Seems fine. Is there a better program to use for burning to multiple targets? None of the other drives have failed, and I only get the error from Nero on one of them, and not every time. |

There is a guide discussing 4 burners at once, but you can customize for the number of burners you want to burn simultaneously with. There are a couple of reasons for your "Power Calibration Error". Search Google on those words and you will get potential fixes, such as from here, from get better media to lower burn speed to disable IMAPI and more. | |

| Re: Nero 9 - Power Calibration Error w/ Sony AD-7240S OK, I am getting more and more power calibration errors with my other drives. As I mentioned in the first post, I got 5 of these drives. I burned a lot of discs before these other drives began giving me these errors. This is kind of ridiculous. It might be slightly different media, but CMC 8X is on the supported media list. I tried burning at 4X and 6X and still get some errors. I've wasted over 60 discs out of 400. I guess by the time I'm done, I probably could have paid for Verbatim media at double the cost per disc. Any ideas on these errors, what they mean, or how to prevent them? I would think compatibility issues would make every burn fail. |

| Re: Nero 9 - Power Calibration Error w/ Sony AD-7240S I think we've already pointed out what the problem is: 1. Nero 9 is a buggy and bloated program, which no one I know likes. 2. You're not using reliable DL media. What else do you want us to tell you? Stop using Nero and stop using crappy media. We don't care what media is on the supported list or what software is popular in the marketplace, you came here asking for our expert opinions. We gave them to you. Now, it's your job to act. I'm not trying to be mean, but when you're using software and media that we wouldn't use in 1000 years, what can you expect us to tell you? BTW, I assume you bought those Optiarc drives new, because if you didn't, then you're really on your own. And make sure the firmware on each of them is the same and up to date. And one other thing, this should be obvious, but make sure that every single program you are using is up to date. Go to the Nero and Alcohol web sites, and download any patches or updates.
