Please Help: NEC Optiarc Cannot Burn DVD

I have just purchased a Sony NEC Optiarc Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 20X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache IDE 20X DVD±R Burner - OEM

I can:

1. Read CD
2. Burn CD
3. Read all DVD media (so far).

I can NOT burn any DVD media (DVD –r, +r, etc). I have tried using both ROXIO and Windows XP pro. ROXIO reports (No supported DVD recorder found in system”.

I have just updated the firmware from the sony-nec site.

This is the 3rd device that Newegg has shipped me with same result. Device Manager, etc all show the device with correct name/driver, etc.

The device functions normally in every way except burning DVD.

I have it installed in a DELL 400SC tower.

Any ideas?
