NEC Optiarc AD-7173S DVD+RW problems

NEC / Optiarc Writer Discuss, NEC Optiarc AD-7173S DVD+RW problems at CD and DVD Writers forum; I just bought this burner to replace my old NEC 2500A. I have since burnt 3 DVD+RW discs (that were previously writen on) and all three resulted in unreadable discs even though the burning process was reported as sucessfull. Discs are unreadable in any of the units I have tried

I just bought this burner to replace my old NEC 2500A. Discs are unreadable in any of the units I have tried them (the same on the burner itself).

It burns recordables just fine. I will try to burn fresh/new rewritables later when I get home and see the results.

Is this a common problem with this drive? Is there a flash that corrects this problem? Should I return the drive?

Please post the brand, rated speed and MID/mediacode of those DVD+RW media.
Also, it might possible that they were booktyped before, so please FULL format them with Imgburn, then test again.

Data verification fails though on those previously burnt discs. It passes on new DVD+RWs. I guess finaly time to replace RWs.

Are these results any good for DVD-R Verbatim media burnt at 8x.

Looks very weird... Maybe you need to select another scanning speed.

Here's the same disc at 4x with DVD-ROM LITEON S0HD 167T. Is this better?
