Upgrade your 3500 firmware to support more DL brands (Ritek D01...).

I tried to change the firmware, but it seems impossible from the current version I'm using: 2.86. (please tell me to which version I can upgrade, 2.19 is impossible).

You will need a firmware flashing tool and a binary copy of the firmware you wish to flash. Read the NEC FAQ for more info.

Yes, as terminalvelocd said, use http://binflash.cdfreaks.com (Win32 GUI version) to open and flash this firmware (.bin and .exe firmware are supported).

Note : You can first backup your original 2.86 firmware with this tool, in .bin format.

This is obviously an old thread, but hopefully someone can help me out. I have this DVD burner and I am trying DLs for the 1st time. 1st question - I bought some TDK DLs to try and burn and I am having the same problems as described here, so if I can make this update will the burner then work with these DVDs?

2nd Question - If it will work, can somebody give me a detailed instruction on how to make the update? I am running XP. I downloaded the Win32 version of the program. I think I need to open a DOS screen, right? from there I am at "C:\documents and settings\my name>" From here I don't know what to do.

If this is not going to work for me anybody have suggestions as to a new DVD burner to purchase? Brand is helpful, model great.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I suggest you read the "how to's" on
Liggy and Dees page http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/en/How-to-Flash/

I appreciate the attempt to help, but I have seen that area and it is a bit over my head. That link takes you to a sort of text book instruction for people who have a decent idea of what they are doing. I need the "flashing for dummies" explanation. Anybody?

Thanks again

Not sure what you are looking at but the "how to" on "How to use the GUI version of Binflash" is pretty well layed out.
Take a look at it.

Thanks for the help. I had downloaded the "Win 32" version and when I opened it it just opened and closed in a fraction of a second. I thought that was the one I needed but I'll try the GUI version when I get home (working now). Do you know if I should get the "Win32 GUI" or the "Win x64 GUI"? I'm running XP.

Are you running the 32 Bit version of Windows (Win32 GUI) or the 64 Bit version (Win x64 GUI)?

I'm not sure. How can I tell? It is XP from Dell.
Thanks

Well, I figured out I had the 32. I successfully flashed the drive, so thank you. Unfortunately, I am still not able to burn the TDK disks I bought. I tried the "Liggy's 3500 bitsetting Firmware 2.1b" & "TDK OEM Firmware 2.C8". Neither worked. Those were the right ones to try, right?

Please post the mediacode/MID.

You can use dvd.identifier.

What is Mediacode/MID? Or more important, where / how do I find it and where do I get dvd.identifier? I guess dvd.identifier will probably tell me the answer to my 1st question.

Thanks again to all for the help

Don't know if this makes a difference, but the program I am using to try and write to this disk is "DVD Shrink" which I use from "Ripit4me". Settings on the program are to DL.

I would use Imgburn and then burn the content at 2.4x on this media.

I think Imgburn worked! I haven't watched the DVD, but it said it was successful and the DVD menu worked when I put it in my DVD player. Imgburn looks like a very good program too. Thank you all very much.

While I’m here: I notice Imgburn is from the same author as DVD Decrypter. Is there a way to connect Ripit4me with Imgburn? Or another program that will work with Imgburn as Ripit4me did with DVD Decrypter?

Just stay with Ripit4me & DVDDecrypter.
