Dunno know... btw, your signature says you still run TDB fw 2.18.

Hm... I don't think it will work right... there are no write strategies added or swaped or anything... just changed write speed flag to higer speed. So if there is no write strat for higher speed it won't work.... If this method should work.. speeding up the media would be just too simple.. Even I could do it =P

BTW: Bitsetting works fine using Binflash
It should be command version 4, just like in the MadDog firmware that I used for the bitsetting code. Maybe there's a bug in DIP that gives you incorrect values.

Has anybody tried to burn a DL disk @4x with any of the SE versions ?
I didn't check this firmware and if the only change made really was modifying two or three Bytes, I'm almost 100% sure that this patch won't work as expected.

I don't think this anonymous friend is a Ritek employee. While chatting with Emperor from cdrinfo, he once told me some things his anonymous friend explained him on how these firmwares work. From what Emperor told me, I'm pretty sure that I know who this anonymous friend is.

The funny thing is that the maddog firmwares used to work with DIP but not Binflash. This time it's the other way around
Might be a bug - or limitation in unregged DIP. As long as it works in one of them it's fine by me. Just wanted to let you know.

for DL 4x.. he just changed 1FF3 to 1FFB as I told you already. For ritek R04 he used ritek R01 name string.. and changed the write speed from 0013 1FFB to 00DE 0403. 00DE 0403 has MCC004 I think.

Could be Herrie, since he creates a NEC 2.16 special firmware with Ritek DL support some months ago, replacing an unused/obsolete strategy entire line by another name string : RitekD01...

Okey.. checked... again... Ritek R04 has 00DE 0403 the same as Prodisk R04
Ritek R03 has 94 1F03 the same as Daxon AZ2. Nothing else compared to original Liggy 2.18.

This is fantastic. Firmware development ON LINE!

BTW, I think we all have a hex editor... but not many the knowledge needed.

I have flashed to 218 SE and have bit set everything to DVD-ROM using DVDInfo Pro. However when I run Binflash gui 1.02, DVD+R SL shows Factory default (active), DVD+RW shows the same and DVD+R DL is greyed out. Also there is no bisetting reset available. Any ideas anyone plaes?

Why don't you try my suggestions in this thread and see if it works for you?

Maybe because I have tried a ton of tools for erasing and formating RW discs already, including Nero CD-DVD Speed (as explained in the thread you linked to), and it still doesn't work with my "used" PHILIPS 041 4x DVD+RW disc? And if you read that thread carefully, it seems that it doesn't work for a lot of other people either.

I don't like to be repeating myself, but any ideas as to why I'm getting 'power calibration error' when I flash to 2.18SE and trying to burn Ricoh +R (RICOHJPNR00 ?? I think from memory) but I don't get the error when I use 2.FA ? I would love to use 2.18SE with all the latest strats.

I have already updated the NEC 3500A Firmware to an unofficial 2.17 version.
Will this firmware update over that?
I am asking this because in the OFFICIAL 2.18 from NEC txt readme file it says that 2.18 can only be applied over 2.16 !

Yes it will... if you use an unofficial flasher like BinFlash from Liggy to flash the firmware.

The first post is just fine. Either download Binflash and the binary firmware from the first post, or you just download the executable firmware that's also mentioned in the first post.

Is it possible to modify the firmware to "region resetable" firmware, Liggy?

Maybe, but I didn't investigate these settings any further and I think RPC1 should be sufficient.
