hello cdfreaks! My firstpost here as I was directed to this site by a fellow OCN member when I brought up the problem with my Sony Optiarc DVD burner.

I have the Sony Optiarc DVD RW 7910S SATA model. It reads dvd's and can burn cd's no problem. It however errors out when I try to burn a dvd and it will also not read a burned data dvd. I had nero and it tests out fine, but when I got to do a burn job it errors out pretty quickly with a power issue I think it says.

I have flashed it to the latest firmware and replaced my SATA cable with a brand new one that came with my new motherboard I just upgraded.

I have a copy of nero would running some tests on the drive and posting the results help? If so what would you reccomend?

Thanks in advance!

It most likely is the media you are using.

Stick to media that are proven and you should be fine.

I had read about that, and originally was using cheapo staples dvd-R, but have now tried maxxell and it did the exact same thing.

The thing is with stuff like Maxell (and Philips, Memorex, TDK etc) is that they don't manufacture their own discs these days, so often they don't use the nest manufacturers, or the best grade of discs in some cases.

Try something like Verbatim or any disc that says "Made in Japan" on the packaging. Another alternative is Sony.
