My question was which of the 3 firmwares is the better one at this moment: Z2 (which I am using right now), the Z3 (which has some problems I understand) or the stock 1.09 (which is newer than z2 and z3).

my vote is going to the stock one, unless you want some overspeed on your media, then you will have to go with the 1.z2.

I just got a new drive, an AD-7200A, April 2009 build, that came with 1.09. I tried to flash to 1.Z3 and I got the following error:

The firmware file expects a different bootcode on your drive. You are not allowed to continue. Found 0x3134 - expected 0x3132.

Thoughts?

I also tried using 1.05BT, which is older still, but the one I use with my other AD-7200, and I got the same error.

After upgrading to 1.09, 7200A became unable to do Disc Quality Test, whatever software I try. I reflashed it to 1.Z3, but it doesn't work either.

What could happen? Thats my only drive installed so I'd like check my burns somehow.

Your drive is equipped with bootcode version 14 while most older drives have version 12. Each bootcode will need its own firmware and 1.Z3 only contains a patched file for bootcode 12. Right now only firmware 1.09 or newer will work with your drive.

Thanks... but disappointing as that limits my options.

I don't suppose you can extract the bootcode from an older drive and flash it to a newer one -- that is, replace v 14 with v 12 so it would work with older firmwares?

Hi Notepad and welcome to cdfreaks.

While that may not be the best burn ever displayed, it's by no means a bad burn. In fact it's pretty good, which is reflected by the quality score of 95 out of 100. Don't forget that PIF result is ECC 8, whereas the LiteOn uses ECC 1.

Even Verbatim media can be quite variable these days but they're still one of the more reliable media producers.

BTW, you will get a better display result on the forum if you save your screen captures in PNG format.

Check out this site for everything you need to flash 1.0A:

This week i bought an AD-7200A , with 1.06 firmware.
I upgraded it to Liggy's 1.09 , then tried Dee's 1.z3 with no succes, cause of boot code 14.
But i was able to back to backup of original 1.06
Also when i run MCSE , it asked to switch to boot code 14 , and i have to click "YES" , or MCSE will not take effects.

But my problem with this drive is that CD-R scan sux a$$ vs. my Liteon combo.

I know it's not important, but if Dee ever gets around to doing 1.Z4 it would be nice if she could add overspeeding for some older media like RICOHJPN R01, or would the easier way to do that be to just strat swap R02 or R03 for R01?

MCC003 is a good generic swap.
