Re: Liggy & Dee's Optiarc AD-7200A/S AD-7203A/S 1.Z2 Modified Firmware

Brand-new AD-7200A, in fact this is this baby's first burn ever. Didn't know at which speed to perform the quality scan with it, but I thought 8x would be just fine. Also attached a scan from my SOHW-1693S at 4x.

The Sonys are my favorites, and I burn a lot of them. Not probably going to stick with the 20x, though. 16x will probably be just fine.

Actually I wouldn't even waste my time scanning with the 7200 but that is my opinion

Iys not that bad actually. In my serup Liteon 20A1S and NEC 7200S give comparable results. The NEC usually returns a bit higher error rates. Its good for scanning CDs though.

Very pleased with this burner and its cooperation with my favorite media so far.
DVD-Audio/DVD-Video disc burned from a ISO located on a local harddrive.

Thank you Dee-27.

Verbatim +R 8x burned with imgburn (sorry no graph, not having dvdinfo installed) at 12x, jitter could have been better but still not a bad result.

Ok i forgot that i still had XP installed so in XP i have dvdinfopro here is also the burn graph, looks nice and smooth .

Almost a "NEC Hall Of Fame" burn NewFish.

I just like the brave guys trying something out of the ordinary . Now that Quikeee is not around anymore.

(Sorry to say, but I don't own any of the latest NEC's, or even know if they are NEC's or MediaTEK drives.
Hope you'll excuse my bad knowledge, but ND-3500 is still my NEC champ.)

72xx are true NEC drives (same chipset as the new Pioneer 116/216 series).
The ND-3500 truly was something special.

Afaik, Nec 7200A has Nec MC-10043 chipset, 7203S - MC-10044, while Pioneer 116 - MC-10043B, Pioneer 216 - MC-10044B.

@vroom
Those are pretty amazing for 12x.

@NewFish
Chipset features are identical, quite possibly the "B" is either a revision or even batch number, or perhaps even an OEM ID.

Next step (i think) will be the 10045/46 in the 722x series, due very soon.

We can only hope that it will burn as good as the 720x series

Now lets go back to the Verbatim +R Dual Layer 8x burned again at 12x (i didn't expect this drive to be that good with Verbs +R DL especially at this speed).

1.06 is the official firmware from optiarc
1.z2 is a modified firmware from Dee-27, and has a few speedups.

I still have it (3500) beside... Well, above actually of my 7203S. Still works like a charm. Sometimes it's difficult to decide which to use

Hell, you know that you're an optical drive freak when you find yourself sitting on a treasure trove of nice burners : 4x LiteOn (been through 300 burns and still working ), two SOHW-832s, NEC 3540A and 3550A, Pioneer DVR-112D and 215D, NEC 7200S and 7170A, couple of LiteOn 20A3Ps and my most prized BenQs (DW1640, DW1650, DW1655).
