1.Z3 AD-72xx series firmwares.
Drive list- AD-7200A
- AD-7200S
- AD-7201A
- AD-7201S
- AD-7203A
- AD-7203S
Please make sure you pick the exact firmware for your drive.
Change log
[Version 1.Z3]
Added firmware versions for the AD-7201A/S
Made some small changes to DVD+R and DVD-R writing strategies, which could improve writing quality.
Change log
[Version 1.Z2]
DVD+R
Removed the speedup for MCC004 (now uses stock speed and strategies)
Removed the speedup for SONY D21 (now uses stock speed and strategies)
Removed the speedup for Maxell 003 (now uses stock speed and strategies)
Removed the speedup for RICOH JPNR03 and fixed the poor writing quality in 1.06
Added CMC MAG M01 at 18x writing speed.
DVD-R
Removed the speedup for MXLRG40 (now uses stock speed and strategies)
Removed the speedup for MBI03RG40 (now uses stock speed and strategies)
RitecF1 and TYG03 are still supported at the faster speeds.
Why have i removed most of the speedups?
NEC firmware engineers have mostly got it dead right (IMO) on which media they can safely overspeed and, most 16x media is simply not able to burn with good quality at 20x.
[version 1.Z1]
DVD+R- MCC004 from 18x to 20x
- Sony D21 from 18x to 20x
- Maxell 003 from 18x to 20x
- RICOH JPNR03 from 16x to 18x
DVD-R- TYG03 from 18x to 20x
- MXLRG04 from 18x to 20x
- Ritek F1 from 16x to 18x
- MBI03RG40 from 16x to 18x
DVD+R DL- MKM001 from 4x to 8x (suggested max speed 6x)
- MKM003 from 8x to 12x
The base firmware used for 1.Z3 is Liggy's 106bt and supports bitsetting on DVD+R/DVD+RW/DVD+R DL
Normal and RPC1 versions available.
Using this firmware will void your warranty, You use this firmware at your own risk.
You can get the firmware here

Curiously, the burn took ages (9:21 !) to complete - so I have included the burn curve. The drive seemed to almost stop and pause at the OPC points. I guess I figured it would coaster being it took so long to burn. Not so sure if the jitter is accurate or if it is my drive. I'm swapping out to another LiteOn later and I will rescan for comparison.__________________

Same disc as above scanned on a different LiteOn. As I suspected, jitter seems more believable with this drive... __________________

Hmmm... methinks MCC004 doesn't like 20X too much. __________________

MCC004 clearly doesn't work at 20x with these mods (no point in wasting media testing any more of these)
RICOH JPNR03 starts to come apart in the stock strategies (around 14 - 16x) and the 18x part is bad. It looks like this strategy isn't good in the stock firmware.
TYG03 seems pretty good at 20x
although jitter is on the rise.
MBI 03RG40 is better than i thought it would be.
Expect 1.Z2 sometime next week, or the week after. I'll try and fix MCC004 and RICOH JPNR03.
Thanks for submitting the tests. Without them, i can't try and fix things.
@vroom
Can you do a TRT test on the Optiarc on that MBI03RG40 please?__________________

Thanks you Dee.
I have done the TRT from the optiarc and the liteon, also made a QS with the optiarc @16x.
Any thoughts about the high jitter or the small mountain of PIF on the 4x liteon scan?
I'll try some more mbi and maybe a few mcc later on. -

Will be interesting to see your results (in terms of the f/w).
I suspect that MCC will always struggle above 16x burn rates.
Even with original f/w, you can see that MCC 004 is only just managing with 18x.
This is my experience regardless of writer. -
