| I have noticed an annoying trend on my burns. A PIF spike where the speed of the burn increases. Any idea why?

| I just burned another disc from the same spindle at the same speed and this time it does not put the spikes in the same place so I guess it's not regular as I thought. But those high spikes are ruining my quality score and not giving me a smooth read curve on the transfer test. Are those high spikes really anything to worry about? BTW I had Nero Drivespeed running during the previous burn. I don't know if that has any effect on the burn at all.

| Strange story, I went to the shop (only shop in town NEC writer sales) where they know me as Forum visitor and Website owner, (here I bought my 3520 too) and ask if they have the 3540 already, a young boy said he must look (in the room behind the shop,) then after a 5 minutes there comes the guy who knew me, and asked me if I wouldn't let the pleople know if the 3540 is there ready for sale? I asked him why, because he wasn't allow start the sale already today! So that's keeping them so long not available! He will give me a call when somwhere next week if the sales start. ________________________________ Please can anyone explain the following to me? | HardwareHarry: As I see it 1.w1 is a tiny bit better than 1.01.. little lower PIE, little lower PIF. But it could be due to media variation. Transfer rate is perfect on both scans. BTW.. why don't you attach the scans to the post?

| The documentation is slightly out of date (+R modified table) YUDEN000T02, RITEKR04 and MCC004 should not be listed in the modified table as they for the moment use the stock write strats. I will update the docs at the weekend. 1.W1 however does use a later revision of the base firmware 1.01 dated 08/04/2005 whereas the original 1.01 base firmware that was supplied with the early production drives were dated 24/03/2005. This could account for slight variations in your burns HardwareHarry. Or as Quikee states, just slight variations with the media.

| Thank you Quikee, I did now this day 5 times diiferent scans, and back to FW 1.01 and then again FW 1.W1, so I noticed that the stability of the drive to scan varies with only the two discs I used, so it's not a problem for me, I'm glad I have a reasonable reader now and the discs both play smoothly on all my players and at my friends players(also 3520 did) But with the posting of the PNG files that procedure stuck and freezes, also my system locked... and only could reset! But I'm aware that I'm on the edge of 8x>16x and with reasonable quality! I have also SONY's(D11) at 16x, so I have no great problems. This first disc burned at FW1.01 scanned slightly different on 1.01 and the disc burned on 1.W1 also does on FW 1.W1 so the drive isn't constant! And it looks like in the first scans that the 1.01 looks better than the 1.W1 burn. That's what I wanted to see you all ! Greetings Harry (all by all I'm a glad man) |

| @Juhuslik (Estonia), glad you get a 3540 earlier than me.... Yesterday I got mine,(my writer was manufactured in APRIL05) although the shop-owner told me that he may not sell them already, but next week! I payed 59euro, very nice price (my 3520 cost me 79.-) nice to see you around here Harry |

| Hi Harry, Mine from Euromaxi(www.euromaxi.nl) and the price was 49.50€ Actually I was disturbing Michel aka ScorpioSoft too. I still hope that he can help me to get BENQ DW1640. The strange thing is that Plextor PX-740 will be available here in 31.05.2005.

| @Juhuslik, Actually the Plextor 740 is a Benq rebadge, that's why that model is so fast on the market...Plextor Co.Japan isn't that big a factory, more R&D and lately they let the Chinese do the manufacturing.(The Chinese even manufacturing or assembling the Olympus lenses for the (Pro)E300, so they must be doing a good job) And now Plextor get Benq do the work. I don't understand this time the 3540 was first on sale in UK, earlier models from NEC was distributing all over Europe the same time.(as far as I know) Harry |

| The 3540 continues to impress me with its burn quality. Good media burns really well in this drive ![]() Here is a RICOH JPNR02 at 16X. These are RICOH's own branded discs and very good quality. 12X burning of course is still possible but will use a CAV write strategy which may help those who are finding this MID doesn't burn to well at 12X at the moment. Scanned with NEC and Liteon drives. E.T.A. 1.W2 (this weekend)
