| Thanks Dee and Liggy. I've been looking forward to trying out this firmware for almost a week now, after xtacydima gave me a heads up on it. So last night I finally got the chance to blow the dust of the 3500 and flashed it to 2.TF. Here's my first result: Ricoh branded RICOHJPNR02 8x branded Burned at 16x 2.TF This is a very good start

| hehe, yeah, I forgot how good this drive is with LD firmware. I'll use some of my cheaper media until some dust builds up again. ![]() Unbranded SONYD11 8x media Burned at 16x 2.TF My best 16x burn with this media (well it almost got to 16x) but it's definite at it's limit at 16x and prefers to be burned at 12x. A good decision by the drive, to back off the burn speed, at the point it did.

| I was hoping the new default 16X strategies in this new base firmware would have been enough and would have saved me a lot of work. It looks like quite a few need a tweak. I'll see what can be done for the next version.@cnlson First of all, many thanks for burning all those media's. I would prefer you kept your media for the next version rather than burning them with 2.TB. i have a feeling 2.TB with its tweaks will perform better than. 2.TF. 2.TF is all new though, and IMO has great potential. So it's a matter of finding some time to tweak those strats for 2.TG ![]() @C0deKing I hope your 3500 didn't gather to much dust. Its much safer keeping the drive in your PC and using it as often as possible.

| Hey Dee....... Looks like I'm going to have to copy Codeking and dust mine of too. This looks pretty nice. Any guess at when the new version will be ready? I still have a ton of media just waiting to get used. It's time I give the BenQ 1620 a little burn rest and fire up the 3500's again. Mark

The quality when burning MCC 003 at 12x is not as good as when burning at 8x. If it were possible to burn it at 16x the quality would in all likelihood be worse than at 12x. Not all burning applications allow you to manually select the burning speed, so they will burn at the maximum speed allowed by firmware. The applications Nero BackItUp and RestoreIT come to mind. I'd much much much much much rather have good results at 8x or 12x than barely readable results at 16x! Thanks for listening.

| Sportfish; Very nice burning I notice that the Maxell 002 DVD+R shows in CD Speed as DVD-ROM , usually the burned which has been set as DVD-ROM would show as DVD+R but at disk information says booktype DVD-ROM. Would mind telling me how did you get it to be shown as DVD-ROM on CD Speed display?. Thanks |
- #98
| @TCAS...... Several programs can adjust from DVD+R to DVD-Rom. Most of the time I use DVD Decrypter. I usually have it set to Rom all the time as this gives me the best chance of my burns playing in a very large variety of standalone players with +R media. Also can use DVDinfopro or Nero. I'm sure there's others out there but these are the ones I use. RICOHJPRN02 @ 16X

| MCC003 has been tried at 16X many times, as has most others that are currently 12X. 90% of them at 16X were coasters.
