| I got this drive in my Dell laptop too! It has the firmware version JD02 but am looking for the latest one, i think it's JD05. The drive phails to record my Phillips DVD+R 8.5GB 8x DL Discs, i think they were Riteks, thats a real shame, i hope the latest firmware fixes that. |

| Hi folks, New to CD freaks. I'm a new programmer (in Unidata/Pick believe it or not), and am partially trained in more modern stuff (the CompTIA/Microsoft A+ Certification test to follow!) but have ran a complete blank on a problem with the Dell XPS M1530 (my girlfriend's laptop which she uses for work). We replaced Vista with XP, with a little help from work colleagues, and all is fine but for one aspect. The Optiarc ad-7640 DVD RW drive won't write to DVD, and as far as I can see, won't recognise itself as being capable of writing to DVD. It plays DVD's, but I get an error message when trying drag files over to a new blank disc in order to write them. The error message presents you with either 'Cancel' as an option, which does exactly what it says on the tin, and 'Retry' which loops back to the same two options, i.e. doing NOTHING whatsoever. really, I need burning facility for three reasons......1. because it is supposed to be able to do it (!), 2. for backing up our system, and 3. for writing avi files to disk for storage/playing on my DIVX DVD player at home, so nothing important but for the inability to backup at present. Can someone suggest software/drivers, utilities or a step-by-step of what can be done to rectify this? |

Which I know I run Windows Vista because I regret not having any of my old XP stuff as I would go back instantly. So I am lost. Please help if you can find anything wrong with this. Ask if you need more info I will see what I can do. I'm so lost. Thanks. |
