front of 3500a drive... headphone jack and volume control?

I was just at NewEgg.com trying to purchase my ND-3500AG, and noticed that the front faceplate has an EJECT button, green LED, and emergency HOLE. All seemed fine. Then I was reading the news headlines here at CDFreaks.com and clicked on the link below...

http://www.cdfreaks.com/news/10427

If you look at the picture there, it shows the drive also having a headphone jack and a volume control knob?! What gives?!

-Thanks

I can tell you this: I am so damn glad they got rid of the completely useless headphone jack and volume control knob, seriously. The drive looks much better without them, and it makes the drive cheaper. And unless you have a ghetto soundcard / amp with a cheaper headphone jack than optical drives have normally, you shouldn't miss them either...

If I need to I simply use the headphone jack on my JLMS XJ-HD165H.

Thanks for the responses... but does anyone know if there are 2 different drives or maybe the picture with that article is wrong. Perhaps it's another drive?!

Re: front of 3500a drive... headphone jack and volume control?

oem drives usually leave off the worthless jack and thumbwheel. if you look behind the bezel you will see the jack is there and the thumbwheel is missing the plastic wheel but the thing it adjusts is there. when i took tech calls for gateway i talked to 2 people in probably 50,000 calls and those 2 only missed the headphone jack on their drive when it was replaced with a non headphone jack model. since there were several cdr and cdrw models that we replaced every last one (wearnes, phillips and a couple of mitsumi's) i feel pretty confident in saying that most people don't miss the headphone jack but one of the two who did tore the new drive apart and wanted me to send him a bezel that had the jack and the wheel so he could adjust it...

that call was pretty damn amusing...
