Drive for Scanning
| NEC / Optiarc Writer Discuss, Drive for Scanning at CD and DVD Writers forum; I've got myself a lovely 3550A that seems to be burning quite well, as far as I can tell. I say it that way because from every which way, including Sundays, I hear that it is an unreliable drive for scanning. If I were looking to get a second drive |

I say it that way because from every which way, including Sundays, I hear that it is an unreliable drive for scanning. If I were looking to get a second drive for scanning purposes, which ones would you suggest? Also, a good scanner that does write to DVD-RAM would be nice too since I don't want to crossflash my 3550. Thanks |

| Early results with the new 4570 and 4571 are encouraging, however if you want a reliable scanning drive with DVD-RAM support, i would suggest the Lite-On SHM - 165H6S. which also supports LightScribe.

There's some really interesting things on the horizon with LiteOn 5S and 6S firmware: OverSpeed and HyperTuning. You should have a look over in the LiteOn forum! Personally I wouldn't choose two NEC drives because they are probably too similar in their strenghts and weaknesses, so if you want two drives that complement each other well, then you should buy two different brands! The LiteOn DVD burners are useless for CD quality scanning however, whereas NEC and BenQ drives are good for that particular purpose - even my NEC 4551, which is totally unreliable for DVD quality scanning, can perform reliable CD quality scanning at 16x CLV!
