The output from binflash and some device info is listed below. FYI: I'm using Linux. This is very likely to DAMAGE your drive or make it INACCESSIBLE! It is not allowed to continue here. If you really think you have to and know what you are doing, please ask for a personal Binflash build Firmware is for a different drive I haven't been able to find detailed information on the "reverse" firmware, so don't want to try those just yet. What is reverse firmware... and why would I need it? Can I get a 5100@5500 "reverse" firmware. I've also tried booting from a DOS Usb key and using the TDB flasher.... similar resutls Thanks in advance!! Niall |

| This error message is caused by an additional check in Binflash. It checks if the first letter of the old firmware (1 in your case) matches the first letter of the new firmware (2 in your case). If it doesn't match it refuses to flash your drive. Please supply me your eMail address in a PM and I'll try to supply you with a special Binflash build that does not have this check. (I guess you like to get a Linux version again)

| Hi; I'm tired to try upgrade my NEC ND-6450A in my laptop Compaq Presario R3375EA (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...445690&os=228). When I contact with HP; they say me this: "We do not have a specific r elease date for this, however, they should be available for download as soon as possible .Please keep frequently visiting the following web site to check the availability: http://www.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html [....] In this situation I recommend you wait for the update or contact the manufacturer NEC for further assistance or buy a new drive which is compatible to use the DVD-R at 16 X." Then I'm writting a e-mail to NEC; and this is he's answer: "Please contact your system builder for the latest firmware updates. The ND-6450A is an OEM drive manufactured specifically for system builders. The firmware for this drive is supplied by the system builder and not NEC." Also I try found the solution in this forum, but I'm dowloaded so many firmwares, flashers adn utilities; but I still with my problem; I can't use my DVD-R 16X (Philips). When I try this: necflash -scan , this is the result: Binflash - NEC version - (C) by Herrie and LiggyThefore when I try upload any firmware file (i.e.: necflash -flash -v -s 458_orig.bin e:), the result it's: Binflash - NEC version - (C) by Herrie and LiggyPlease; what I need to do more?; where it's my problem?, why I can't update this firmware? Thank you very match for your help |

| The firmware you are trying to flash is for a slave device while your drive is currently set to master. Continueing here would break your drive.

Hi Liggy. Any chance you could send that firmware my way too, just gotten a NEC ND-6100A 1.04D (Dell too) for a Latitude D410. I asume I need the 2.XXX firmware too, however not sure on the master/slave of drive, because Dell for some (no doubt cheap) reason hook these drives up VIA USB even when it's internal in a dock/mediabay. So would the 2.XXX be the one to use? Guessing the 4.XXX is the slave one. Thanks EDIT, running Windows (xp)

| If the drive is currently recognized by your laptop you should NOT try to change this setting as it's very likely that the drive won't be recognized anymore after changing. If your drive is not recognized, you will either need a laptop that recognizes your drive or a slimline IDE adapter and a desktop PC. All the tools that are required can be found on my ND-6500A page.
