Hi,

Untill recently my laptop would play any dvd, cd or any file type that i would download (AVI, MKV, WMV etc).

It now only plays downloaded AVI files and anything else the audio and video is very jumpy and stuttering. I have tried using many different players such as WMP, VLC, PowerDVD, Nero ShowTime and all have the same problem.

Any Suggesions of what could be the problem?

Michael,

I love you!

The Secondary IDE Channel was showing 'PIO Only'...changed that to 'DMA if available, restarted the computer and hey presto! everything is now playing fine.

Thanks again for your quick response. Another problem quickly solved by the legends on CD Freaks.

Its Back!!! The problem has come back.

Ive checked the DMA and they are all saying DMA if available still, but whereas yesterday i was able to play all file types and dvds, today i can not again.

Please help.

What is the current transfer mode? This is much more important than the "DMA if available" setting.
