This thread is NOT about dvdinfopro. Please try to find a better thread for your questions next time or create a new thread if you can't find a matching one.

The command versions indicate what kind of bitsetting is supported:
1 - Only allow permanent changes for DVD+R DL
2 - Also allow temporary changes for DVD+R DL
3 - Also allow temp&perm changes for DVD+R
4 - Also allow temp&perm changes for DVD+RW

This drive is probably based on a QSI hardware design and unlikely to be supported by Binflash.

unfortunately this is also qsi-drive (TDW-081), nobody know how to dump firmware from qsi (nothing works) but dos-flasher is availble, and works to flash for any DVDRW from QSI

dos flasher means QSIFLASH, original flasher from qsi with support for all DVDRW drive's
ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/rmsd/AD-7580S%20FD06.zip - unpack this archive and find QSIFLASH - this is a flasher, for DOS (it means that you have to boot with dos usb flash drive and use this utility there)
if your firmware is lost you have to find FW for your drive and flash it using this utility. (for example find somebody with this drive and ask to dump FW to bin-file)

Not sure if this a problem or not but I noticed that when I just went to flash my 7240S with your bitsetting enabled 1.02 firmware, Binflash (1.47a) started to waste cpu cycles (using 25% of my quad core cpu according to task manager) whilst this box was on the screen (this came up just after it seemed to reset the drive).

---------------------------
Question
---------------------------
You are about to flash your drive with the following firmware:

Vendor: Optiarc
Identification: DVD RW AD-7240S
Version: 1.02

Remember no one can be held responsible for any kind of failure!
Are you sure you want to proceed? (y/n)
---------------------------
Yes No
---------------------------

Also, if you click 'No' on that prompt it still pops up this box (when I'm guessing it shouldn't) :

---------------------------
Binflash
---------------------------
In order for the new firmware to become active, you need to restart your computer.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

My message hook while flashing didn't work the way it was supposed to. Made some changes that will be released in the next Binflash update. Looks like I'm quite bad at Windows GUI programming.

BTW: Binflash was not resetting but entering the bootcode in order to retrieve the bootcode version.

You're still using an old Binflash version. Please try running the latest version. But it seems that your PC does not forward all commands that are required for flashing to the drive.

any chance you can add support for the sony optiarc BC-5500S? http://www.sony-optiarc.eu/supportse...s/bc5500s.html

Currently binflash can't recognise the drive. It came in my HP laptop, i want to update the firmware which enables 4x bluray reading instead of 2x but hp dont release firmware updates often and i want to try the 1 from optiarc site which could break it so i want to back up my firmware with binflash incase it doesn't work and restore it.

Already tried this but the firmware appears to be scrambled and I don't even know which chipset / assembler language is required here.

I don't know anything about the scrambling used, but in terms of the chipset I opened up my drive a while back and the three ICs used inside BC-5500S drives are:

1. NEC D634 10F1 (0818K3025)
2. NEC C3360GC (0820K3025)
3. PSC A2V64S40CTP (811AFDIL, -G75)

I hope that helps.

Unfortunately it doesn't help as long as I don't know how to (un)scramble the firmware or at least get access to an unscrambled version.

Just dropping by to say thanks to Liggy for awesome job he does with modded firmware and necflash. Not only that it works great, but also this is the only drive that I can flash in Linux.

Respect.
