By the way, I have to say that I also could flash after with firmware 2.19 using Nec's flasher (the nec's advice not to use on usb/firewire drives is not applicable to LaCie's burners)

Hi - thought you might like to know:

I just used necflash 1.13 on my Macintosh OS X 10.3.8 to successfully flash my NEC ND-1300A external Firewire drive with herrie.org's 1.0C firmware. Fantastic! Now I can use the 25-cent discs instead of the $1 ones!

Before this, when I tried to use the cheaper discs, I was getting an error message in Toast, saying "the connection is unstable". Kind of a stupid error message, I guess really it was that the media was unrecognized. Well now it is!

The drive is a Cendyne CDICD00237, which I believe uses an Oxford OXFW911-TQ-A chipset.

By the way, is there somewhere I can get the "official" NEC 10B firmware in a bin file, for use in necflash? I downloaded the one from NEC, but it's inside a Windows installer, so I can't use it on my Mac. Maybe someone could make a dump of it with necflash and post it somewhere or mail it to me?

Thanks everyone....

Did you ever try reading the first sentence on the Binflash homepage? Maybe this will help you already.

Oh... do you mean that I can just do:

necflash -flash NECND13_10B.EXE B:

...necflash will know where to look inside the windows installer to find the firmware, even on the mac? cool! that didn't really occur to me.

well thanks again for necflash, it's great that the mac is supported with this.

That's right. Most firmware flashers contain the executable, simply appended by the firmware file and maybe two more Bytes. And that's something that doesn't differ - regardless which platform you use.

I just updated Binflash to version 1.14

It includes support for flashing NEC ND-3530 drives (currently untested) and it adds support for flashing slave firmwares for the Notebook drives ND-5x00 and ND-6x00 (not tested either)

Download Binflash here.

I just changed the referer check a bit - I hope it works now. But you should really check your system configuration why the referer is not sent.

When downloading the Win32 GUI 1.14 version this is what I get "necflash_wingui.zipPHPSESSID=15159a12c42700b86ce0c1f623b2714a". After renaming it to 'necflash_wingui.zip' everything works.

Hmmm. Just removed the session stuff again. Didn't seem to work the way it should...

Binflash v1.15 was just released, which fixes a bug when flashing executable firmwares for 2XXX and 3XXX drives with integrated Binflash.

At the moment only Windows and Linux are uploaded. Mac and DOS will follow after work.

I am trying to flash under DOS whit Binflash but the program does not find my MadDog 2fc (-sec -mas):"devices supported no found" Binflash does not support MadDog drivers (the mine is not really maddog, is nec crossflashed) or is another kind of problem? No problem with Win Binflash

-sec -mas sounds like TDB's flasher. Binflash uses different commandline options.

- sec - mas it only means that my driver this in IDE secondary master, but I am trying to use necflash.exe, not TDB DOS flasher. Under DOS I am able to see with other utilities all my drivers, but necflash -scan reports "drive supported found".

Did you load the necessary ASPI.SYS as stated in the README.TXT?

I already obtained it. The problem was that I not was installing aspi.sys, in effect. Thanks. I thought that only it was necessary to load that driver if you wanted to use a driver like reader. Now a new problem: it says that I have two supported devices: Mad Dog in 0.2.0 and Mad Dog in 1.0.0 ??

Whenever necflash scans under DOS, it obtains two supported devices: an Mad Dog in 1.0.0 and another one in 0.2.0. But I have in fact one only Mad Dog in IDE secondary master and one benq in IDE primary master. I do not understand what I am making bad now

I have investigated and probably this is a problem in the BIOS of the MOBO. When change the Nec of IDE and I put it in first IDE (master), binflash under DOS does not have any problem and sends the information correctly of -scan. With the NEC in IDE secondary master, binflasf -scan was hung once even!

Binflash has just been updated to version 1.16. This new version only adds (experimental) support for NEC ND3540 drives.
