| Users Bunny and Pulsee tried it here and reported back that an Optiarc AD-7170 drive with Plextor PX-800 firmware couldn't burn any discs. Liggy then reported that the drives have different bootcode versions, so cross-flashing is not going to work - at least not for now.

| According to the tests in the actual c't the NEC drive performs better than the Plextor rebadge, so the NEC should actually run with NEC firmware.

| For me this is more a sign of how big the variation of two drives with the same hardware can be. I'm sure that the Plextor drive with NEC firmware would still give the same results.

| On the other side - I will not read too much in this c't test/article. For example, they write that the TSST/Samsung burners were not able to be used for Q scanning with Nero cd dvd speed...... mh, a simple removing from the BLOCKED list would have done it. Oh well, maybe I'm too hard on them.
