| I wish my NEC ND25x0A drive was still alive I'd be glad to test it out Quikee. *sigh* I miss that drive! :P

| I have a quick question. For RICOHJPN R01 -> RICOHJPN R02 (6x->8x), does this mean that with 2.4x - 4x, the f/w is using RICOHJPN R01?

| No. It means that it's speeded up from 6x to 8x.

| Let me rephrase the question from Jason the way I understand it: Which writing strat is used for RICOHJPN R01 at the different speeds (2x, 4x, 6x and 8x). In the ideal case I suppose the best for a RICOHJPN R01 would be to use the original RICOHJPN R01 for 2x and 4x and only the RICOHJPN R02 for 6x and 8x. Is it possible and does it matter? |
| And BTW thanks for your continued effort also on the 25xx - we are still quite a bunch of people using this drive happily. On the other hand, I don't visit here as often as in the past where the 25xx was THE HOT drive - most problems are ruled out and the drive is not cutting edge anymore and will never be again, no matter how clever the firmware patchers are However it still make perfect burns in about 10 minutes which is good enough for my current needs and hardware. |
| It uses RICOHJPNR02 for all speeds... it would be better to use R01 for 4x 6x yes but I don't think it will make a difference... We'll see when someone provides some results

| Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I appreciate the work you did on this firmware and for the NEC-2510a and RICOHJPNR01 media. I was able to burn some Fuji branded media at 8x with no problem, successful verify in Nero 6.6.0.3, and a smooth CAV read curve in CD-speed with a near constant 4500 RPM. My hat is off to you sir. I'll post a nice read graph once I get the hang of posting the link in the reply, I owe you that. Thanks, TedS |
| I agree, there is still a bunch of us using this WONDERFUL drive. I'm sad to hear that some have died already but they do have some 2510 and 2500 for sale on ebay but for the price you could probably get a 3500. I'm going to cry when this drive dies. THANKS QUIKEE FOR THE AMAZING ADDITIONS TO THE FIRMWARE! |
| Thanks Quikee for doing this new Beta. Will test out my Ricohjpnr01 real soon. Just finished packing some cloths for a container going to Sri Lanka tomorrow. Need some time to get back into DVD burner testing mode. |
| Hi Thank you for the update firmware. A chance that you are there Quikee2. I would like to know if it is possible to do something with Philips dvd+r 2.4x. I buy those for my liteon lvw5005 recorder, and are perfect for the job, but at 2.4 on my 2510a it is to slow. If you have a chance to check this. Thank you. | Yes.. I might speed them up to 4x or 6x... But you must know... I don't have this disc... neither I have a 25x0 drive... so I don't know how the new strategy for 4x. Also I don't know how most of the speeded up disc will work.

| Hi, I got a NEC 2500A flashed with Herrie''s 2K5107v2B5DL,and I'd like to know if this firmware is better than Herries in terms of burn quality and speed media hack.Could you please make a comparisson.Also I know this firmware would rename my drive as NEC 2510A.Could I flashed it back(2K5107v2B5DL)with no problems.Can I use NEC2x00 DOS firmware flasher with Quikee's?Thanks in advance. Have a nice day! |
| Why don't you compare those 2.. I've done my job ![]() You can flash with BinFlash in windows to whatever firmware you like... no need to go to DOS.

| Thanks quickee, i'll be trying out the r02 @ 8x, will post when i'm done. (hah it's new years eve now, will post another time :P ) |
| The lite-on drive i use to scan isn't a dvd burner. I do know it scans pressed dvds a bit high to. So it might be hard to compare to other kprobe scans. |
| Here's my old ritek r02 scans http://forum.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=115372 Nice PI levels, Bad read speed graph in my lite-on drive but ![]() NOW it's reading back perfect, 4x burns VERY VERY well. Thank you soo much quickee, my nec 2510 is now perfect Happy new year mate.here's the latest scan Edit: forgot to mention, my 6x burn attempt failed after 2 seconds, coaster. 8x burn finished successful according to nero, but playing it back a crc error occured at where the 6x burn point starts. |
| Ok,First of all, Happy New Year to everyone.My apologies to Quikee for my dumb newbie question.I flashed my 2500A to Quikee B3 Firmware and burned some audio CD's sucessfully and fast.Although I haven't burned any DVD pressed movie I did noticed that whenever I played a DVD Movie the HDD Led keeps flashing and with original NEC firmware and Herries don't,like it was consumming more CPU.I'd like to know if in some manner affects the burning process or quality.Keep up the good work Quikee and thanks for the firmware. Have a nice day! |
| It doesn't use more cpu, it merely uses the hdd activity LED when there is activity in the drive. Whether it's ejecting, reading, burning etc, it will be seen by the ide chanels as a hdd, therefore the LED powers up on activity. Herrie had a fix for that as you mentioned, i have nfi what it involved, but it was a handy fix. |
| Hey there, Quikee I'm currently using your Modified 2.F8 firmware and its been working really well for me. I was wondering if you could include this DVD Media in your next revision. These discs are Kodak 8x DVD+R but only burn at 4x. If you could add this I would appreciate it greatly, here is the media code!
