Thanks for this updated firmware. I have been happily using Herrie's 107 V2 B5 firmware, but figured I'd try this one out since you're putting forth the effort.

A few things I'd ask:

1. Does the drive do bitsetting automatically by default? Or do I need to set it with one of the tools?

2. It would be great if the RICOHJPNR00 and R01 media could be enabled to go up to 8x as they are in Herrie's 1.7 V2 B5 firmware. I still have a bunch of Fuji 2.4x RICOHJPNR00 discs and they burn amazingly well at 8x, much better than the RICOHJONR01 discs I had. I'll just go nuts having to burn them at 8x.

Thanks again for your hard work on behalf of NEC users!

You need a tool... try WinBTypeV2 or Liggy's BinFlash. I'll try to release a new beta as soon as possible... The progress is kinda slow with 25x0 as nobody posts results.. and I have set the priority to 3500 firmware...

Thanks for the info.

I flashed it last night and use the flasher to set the booktype.

As soon as I burn some media, I'll post some scans.

I don't have a Benq or LiteOn for a detailed scan, but I'll be happy to post transfer rate graphs with speeded up media. Speed up the Ricoh01's and I'll happily post a transfer graph

Thanks in advance,

If you could add support for these media, I could provide an error scan as well as a CD Speed scan

Yeah, that's why I buy those Fuji RICOHJPNR00 media whenever I see a spindle left. Those things burn better at 8x than any other Ritek-made media I've tried, including their 8x discs.

Hi,
Superlory, I also have an external drive I use with my laptop... You can use one flash utility I got at http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/ named NecWinFlash... It suited me...

Quikiee, I'm still having some issues regarding Nero (now I can't use it in express mode...) and even with the dvd's I burned right I have problems to read them with my laptop dvd reader (it's the most sensitvive to errors...), This happens only with Princo's... Still everything else seems fine... thank you for still loosing time with the 25XX series...

I used necwinflash...
anyway i found the trick..I should have turned off the enclosure..not just reboot pc..and I never turn off my pc..

To be clear: flash the drive, completely turn off the enclosure, restart pc, turn on the pc...

Well, I had a bunch of scans to post, but the forum won't let me. Everytime I try to upload an attachment, it says "Not a valid image". I've saved the image as a GIF, a JPG, and a PNG. No go. Even resized it. No go.

Not sure what's up with that.

Some DVD-R results:
1) Memorex-branded disc, Herrie's 107b5 fw;
2) idem;
3) idem, but with Quikee's last fw. This one had only 11 (yes, ELEVEN) PIFs in the 4x and 6x range (i.e, 'til 50% of scan)!
Comments?

Hi there. This this my first post in this forum so I ask for a little patience in case I am asking some stupid question.

I have a Nec 2500a and I have been using 2k5107v2b5 firmware from herrie for several months. I just love that firmware because of the speed hacks for every 4x media that I use.

But now it seems to be the time to update the firmware of my drive to 2.F8 from Quikee2, because it also have speed hacks and it has a better support for DL disks including bitsetting. I'll flash my drive as soon as possible with your beta 2, but I can't post PI/PO errors because my DVD drives doesn't scan it.

So my question is to Quikee2: Can you copy all herrie's write strategies for all the media it suports from 2k5107v2b5 firmware and apply them to your 2.F8 firmware?

And by the way, I wish to send a big thanks to Quikee2 ( ).

FYI - Herrie's 1.07 V2 Beta 5, which you are using now, also does bitsetting on DVD+R DL media (along with DVD+R and DVD+RW).

But 2k5107v2b5 doesn't suport RITEK DL (only MKM DL). Anyway, I read somewhere in a forum of the firmware page (www.rpc1.com) that 2k5107v2b5 cannot do bitsetting in DVD+R DL (only in DVD+R and DVD+RW using DVDinfoPro). Now I'm confused ... are you sure? Then, how do I set it to DVD-ROM for DVD+R DL in DVDinfoPro?

Yes, that's true. It doesn't support the Ritek DL media. But I never said it did.

As for for bitsetting, I had it on my drive for so long, I don't remember if I had to set it to bitset DVD+R DL or not. I think it is set to bitset to DVD-ROM for all three automatically, but I can't remember. I know the DVD+R DL media I have burned with my drive using that firmware are all DVD-ROM. It definitely bitsets DVD+R DL media. From the sticky thread on "NEC firmware and modding links":

Quote:
Herrie 1.07 v2 beta5 (Highly recommended!)
This firmware is based on the HP 520i 2.21 firmware.
It includes RPC1, riplock removal, 2100@2500, SL & DL bitsetting, DL burning support, and speeded up media.
(allows you to burn many 4X certified discs at 8X)
You might want to check out that thread if you need to use one of the tools to set the drive to bitset to DVD-ROM or if its automatic, if you're going to stick with that firmware. I'm sure its in there.
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=96333

If you're updating to Quikee2's firmware, then its a moot point.

Quikee also said recently he was going to release a new beta. That was supposed to be a few days, but its the holidays... everything moves slower over the holidays.
