Hey All,

This is my first attempt to burn a Dual Layer DVD (Memorex DVD+R DL media) using Nero Ultra 7 (Recode 2) on my Toshiba SD-R5372 5x Double Layer Writer and got a burn failed message.

The PC is a P4 3.06GHz, 1GB RAM and fairly standard system.

Would you please let me know what went wrong? I am curious to find out, so I learn and avoid ruining these relatively pricy medium!

Many thanks in advance!

p.s. to conserve the bandwidth, I didn’t copy and paste the ‘log file’, but I have it saved and can posted if you want me. thanks.

I suggest that you don't use nero to burn dual layer media because it is not suited very well for that.

Your Toshiba SD-R5372 automatically sets the Book Type for DVD+R and DVD+R DL media to DVD-ROM. This is a good thing, there will be less chance of there being a compatibility issue with your home dvd player. Now here is what I suggest you use.

AnyDvD - To remove the latest protections
DvD Decrypter - Iso read the image to your harddrive. ( Two files iso, mds)
Imgburn - Use mds file and Iso read the image to disk

Thanks, will the Imgburn copy the two files (mds file and Iso), back to the Dual Layer DVD?

Thanks!

The mds is a file that gives the burn engine instructons on how to burn the image. Your iso will automatically be burned to the disk by selecting it.

I'm curious to know how things turned out. I also tried recently to burn my first DL DVD with recode. Until I updated my burners firmware ... it wouldn't even reconize the media. After updating the burn began to work and I thought finally this is going to work. But while finalizing the disk, I encountered errors.

lost most control of my fingers so pleaqe bear with me, it hurts like hell 2 type.

i'm using nero 6.18 (what ever the latest 6.x version + lightscribe)and i've burned maybe 20-30 dVD+r DL Dual layr) DVDs all verbatim media (which they changed) but i'm able 2 burn some at 8x but most at 4x. burnibg DL @ 8x takes about 19 mins not bad but we need ome good 8x dl media. Verbatim changed chmicals or something on their MKm 001 (i think thats the code 4 DL)but i see they are coming out with mkm 003 maybe that will take us back to the good verbaims.
verbatim comes now (aftr the sony DRU-810a. Sony posted on their site verbatim as the only media they recommend 4 burning DL @ 8x) but after vb changed chemicals I could get very many vbs to burn at 8x, I nooticed VB came out with 2.4x DVD+R DL certified, then DVD+R DL 2.4-6x certified, then 2.4x-8x certified. they all acted the same some failing @ 8x some nt failing. had a few talks with Sony and Verbatim.
as stated the white printable VB mediaseems to bethe worst. reason i know they did changes was by following VB closely, asking a few vb techs i knew from my NASA days and last but not least, when u call vb about bad DL media they immediately with out question send out new ones and toss in a fe extras. othr companies make u jump thru hoops before sending replacement media. well its not that bad but it sure seems likeit. now Sony on the other hand changed their site and no longer lists vb media as burning at 8x. And after my 2nd bad sony, i told em screw it and crossfalshed to a benQ, with Qsuite i get less bad DL burns. but i'd sure like 2 see some good 8x DL media.
See the review on the Sony DRU-810a (very good) he had the old vb 2.4x media and was able to get clean burns at 8x. the media from VB has changed drastically..

btw been burning dl media on the crossflashed Sony, and 2 lite-ons a SHW-160PS and a SHM-165H6S. 3 burners o same machine the plextor 760a will be my fourth when they become vailable in the states... so if u knowwhere u can buy the plextor now please hollar. im sure many users want that writer too.
