What did they say in the letter? I had a friend who's ISP cut him off until he faxed them to say that he would not do it again. He's since changed ISP.

Did they send you a letter by post or by email. If they emailed you, then it's probably fake. It should also state which movie you were downloading and at what time they exactly caught you.
If it's real, then it should only be a slap on the wrist. MGM doesn't know who you are. They have your IP address and the only thing they can found out with that, is who your ISP is and from what country you are.

You are running a firewall, aren't you ?
Also take a look at ProtoWall and The Blocklist Manager to block the IP addresses of anti-piracy groups and more. www.bluetack.co.uk

i got it in eamil its real its got a return addy and the exact time and server i d/l it from it was the new stargate atlantis

i am running seygate(sp?) personal firewall

they say they wont me to respond with the action i am going to take, what should i say

nothing .. was the email personalized ? If not .. anyone could have downloaded it from your computer (and your ip). They have no proof whatsoever

well i have replyed to the email saying it was a mistake and i have deleted the infringing file and the bit torrent client used to download it and all connections from the server i was downloading it from,

so from now on i`m not using any P2P sharing programs and not going to d/l any more mp3 i`m going clean this scared me

first of all..where do you live? in what country?

second.... ISP's don;t give away personal info that easily. Because they are not allowed to give away personal info (in most countries).

Most of the time thet get the warning with an IP attached. This IP is ofcourse a costumer of them....so they forward it to you.
If it was serious..they would have disconnected you by now.
See it as a warning.

BTW...never reply those emails to the orginal sender.... if you do...you admit what you did.
Only ask you ISP for the original email.

unless you where uploading you should be ok... the expression "they have bigger fish to fry" comes to mind, i wudnt worry to much, what movie was it you downloaded and where from, laws change from country from country, what country are you from?
