<p>On September 25, 2005, Slyck reported that several new branches of code were being developed by LimeWire. This code's ultimate function was to block the sharing of unlicensed files. LimeWire had already taken many steps to discourage the sharing of unlicensed files, however the June 26 Supreme Court decision emboldened the RIAA to further pursue file-shairng developers.</p> <p>Today, LimeWire is the most popular P2P application for music. Over 2 million individuals simultaneously use this client, more than any other client for this purpose. When and if LimeWire decides to upgrade their code, millions of voices will suddenly cry out in terror and suddenly become silenced. Indeed, something terrible will happen.</p> <p>But it doesn't have to be this way. The P2P community has proven to be a resilient, elastic and talented core of individuals ready to meet and overcome virtually any obstacle placed before it. The stifling of LimeWire is no exception, as the rise of FrostWire hopes to continue the core of LimeWire as a pillar of Internet freedom.</p> <p>Source: <a href="http://www.slyck.com/news.php?story=935">FrostWire Prepares for Gnutella's Future</a></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Basically LimeWire because of legal pressures has decided to implement checks for licenses on&nbsp;shared content. However another P2P&nbsp;community plans to develop FrostWire building on the same program foundation, but without&nbsp;any limitations that&nbsp;LimeWire plans to&nbsp;introduce.</p> <p>So whoever uses LimeWire&nbsp;might end up using <a href="http://www.frostwire.com/">FostWire</a>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

FrostWire sounds like it would be the next big thing like LimeWire, but here the question, Will FrostWire end up like LimeWire getting sued and have to add the licensed thing?

Everyone is forgetting that Limewire is just a client. It has NOTHING to do with the underlying network, which is searchable by any of a dozen clients.

Limewire is crapware, and there are many more efficient ways of accessing Gnutella networks.

That is completely true.... its not like bittorrent where you get the warez from one source and then ahve to go to a separate client to dl it...

There are free clients, and clients which cost money. Hell, even Shareaza will search the Gnutella network for you.

People forget that the network is NOT the program. Kazaa isn't a network, it's a frontend for the FastTrack network. Limewire isn't the network, it's a frontend for the Gnutella network. Google "gnutella" and see what comes up.

You're right! but LimeWire is one of the best clients, if not the best one, to hook up to the Gnutella network. Otherwise there wouldn't be such a community effort to carry on with it's codebase.
