| Hey guys, I've recently bought two games, both the latest securom protected as some info-digging shown it: NWN2 and UFO:afterlight. NWN2 is already back in the shops, as I thought hell I don't care about one game. But now UFO is doing similar tricks on me... Ok here's the story; I cannot access these DVDs on my computer. My gf has an exact same specced machine, and both games were willing to install on that one. (at least the installer starts up) On my machine the DVDs are un-accessible. With the NWN2 I could see the files on the DVD and after a while I was able to install it (originally I could not, but somehow it fixed itself after a few hours of rest), however I could not play it. But UFO has something even more nasty on, and I cannot even see the files, and any attempt to access the DVD freezes the program used to access it. I've tried it now in 3 different ways - via my computer, clicking on the DVD icon - total commander - simple command prompt typing d: (it's the dvd's letter) all three has been frozen so badly that only a restart could revive the computer, the programs simply cannot be killed. Well, the my computer can, but then you cannot do much with windows afterwards. So I'm here, stupidly buying games and being denied to use them by the copy protection method used. I've tried starting yasu beforehand, it does not work. I've had DaemonTools installed on this machine, not anymore though. I've absolutely no clue what could cause this. If anyone has ideas, I'm open, but please don't suggest a reinstall (edit: windows reinstall that is) that's out of question at the moment (too much time to reinstall everything I work with). Otherwise it's a memento, that pirating software may be a less painful alternative now, with these new fancy copy protection methods...congrats to all game companies, this will achieve that more and more people will refrain from buying their software. |
