Equipment: Dell Dimension 2400 P4 2.8

Drives:
NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A
AXV CD/DVD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device
JLMS DVD-ROM XJ-HD166

Don't ask me about sheep cos I have no Idea. All I know is the following made an exact copy of my daughter's The Sims Deluxe Edition. Good luck.

Download the Trial version of the latest Alcohol 120% and install.

Do following when main screen loads:

File Menu, select Options, then Expand General, click Data Type setting, then click Disc Type (default Audio CD) and select SafeDisc 2/3 instead, then Click RecordingOptions and check to see if Bypass EFM Error is enabled (by default it should be). If not, enable it then click OK. keep all other default settings. Minimise Alcohol window.

Insert your original Sims Disc One into your CD Rom drive.
When The Sims loads with welcome screen, leave it. Don't play it or exit from it. Just leave it sitting on the Desktop.

Maximise the Alcohol window
Read Speed should say maximise and at the bottom left side the Datatype should say SafeDisc 2/3. If not, select it. Then click next. This next window allows you to choose a different location for your image file and/or change the image name. Personally, I didn't bother. I just went ahead and clicked START with the details it inserted for me.

The log window will list the blocks of data it is reading and on most of them you will see 'Disc read error' while the dumping procedure is in operation. Doesn't matter. When the Image has finnished being made, the original Sims disc will eject automatically and you will hear a finale tune. (this is part of the default settings in Alcohol). Minimise Alcohol window. Do not exit.

Remove The Sims CD.

Insert a Blank CD-Recordable disc in your CD-RW drive.
Windows may prompt you for an action with the blank disc. Just close the dialogue box.

Maximise the main Alcohol window, The Sims Deluxe Image is shown highlighted. If not, highlight it.

Then click Image Burning Wizard.

This will show 'Welcome to the Image Burning Wizard' screen.
Select the Image file you would like to record. By default, this ALREADY HAS THE LAST IMAGE FILE YOU RECORDED in it which in this case is the Sims Deluxe CD 1. So just click next.

This will show 'Prepare your CD/DVD Recorder' screen.
Keep everything as it is. Make sure Datatype on bottom left of screen says SafeDisc 2/3 and Bypass EFM error is checked. If not select both. (These are required for writing as well as reading the protected disc.) It will show the 'recording procedure progresss bar' 1%, 2% and so on. At the bottom it will show your device and its current status as 'Recording..'. On completion it will show a message box, 'All recording procedures have been completed'. Then just click ok. And your perfect copy of the Sims Deluxe CD1 will eject.

Im a newbie at all of this and this is my first post. I found that this procedure worked also for CD2 and the Makin Magic. If it worked for you, please let me know if you were successful so that this post wasn't a complete waste of time.

Peace
freespirit.

yes I did. I did not realise this was disabled to US users. My apologies to those in the US. I suspect then that my Step by Step will only be useful to those in the UK/Europe.

Sorry. Thx for your reply.

Peace

lol>>ok. People may get an idea of your post from my reply. There maybe a way round the 'Bypass EFM' on this forum, but I haven't looked. If i come across it, here or elsewhere, I will post it as a reply to this thread. Sorry I can't be of more help.
regards

Thanks

Followed this step by step and it worked perfectly with a Sony CRX230A burner.

I burnt at only 4x because it's only a 366Mhz processor that was the only difference.

I also copied SIMS Unleashed (protected by SafeDisc 2.8) by using same method except reducing the speed to x4 (not max).

Thank you. Now my grandchildren can quit fighting over who is playing the game. They can both play it on their own computers. Great instructions so that even a grandmother could do it.

Thanks freespirit. I tried this method too. But there's a slight error. Whenever I put in my burn copy of sims cd to start up, sims will generate an error.

The only way is to put in the original cd and let it run for a while. After which, I will press "alt ctrl" to minimise the sims window and put in the burn copy of the cd.

Please enlighten me on this. Thanks. =)
