| The mystery behind Psx copy protection I'd really like to make some backup copies of some old playstation1 games that I own. As far as I know this is legal to do, but correct me if I'm wrong. I haven't actually attempted to do this yet, as I've been trying to read about it as much as I can and all I can seem to find are very long articles that really don't offer many concrete facts. The big question I have that I can't seem to find the answer to is, 'What's stopping me from making a 1:1 exact copy of a playstation1 disk on the same blank format disk, putting it in, and having it load with out any issues.' From what I have read, in order to get games like this to actually play, you need some sort of mod chip or something, which just seems very involved and most likely unethical and possibly harmful to your system. Like, what are they doing at the factory when these disks were created, that allows these disks to play with out a mod chip or any other process besides putting the game in and your ready. I could be very wrong on this, but it just doesn't seem like something 10+ years old would have security that would even stand a chance against today's technology. Is there some very complex security protection on these disks that hasn't been figured out yet or something, I've heard that also. If anyone has any idea of how to do this with out the use of a modchip or something like that, I'd really like to know. It's for my own games as backup copies and I would not use the knowledge for illegal purposes, I'm in it for the experience and sake of knowing. Thanks. |
