As Jamos has noted in this thread not all drives are capable of playing a back-up copy of safedisc 2.9 protected cds.

Numerous posts on this forum indicate that even fewer drives can play a back-up copy of safedisc 3.15 protected cds (as FutureProof has noted, his back-up copies of PoP:SoF will run only from his Ltd-163D).

Please post your results as to which drives, if any, that you have will play a sd 3.15 back-up copy (and those that won't too) in this thread providing the following information:

1. Game title.

2. Hardware used to copy (e.g. Asus CRW-5224A fw 1.37 to both read and write).

3. Software and copying method (e.g. alcohol with safedisc 1 datatype settings).

4. Whether any emulation technique was used to run the copy (e.g. clonecd's hide cdr media or blindwrite's autoplay). [Note: Use of alcohol's Ignore media type when running from a writer doesn't count as emulation for these purposes.]

5. On which drives, if any, the copy works and those on which it doesn't work.

1. Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time
2. Reading and Writing Aopen CRW-5232/ARR
3. BlindWrite 4.5.7.92
4. No emulation
5. The copy works on Aopen CRW5232, Liteon 52327S, LDW411, LDW811, Pioneer DVR-106D, DVR-107D burners, Asus 5224A (using Hide ATIP) and Pioneer DVD-121, Liteon 165H DVDROM, 166S DVDROM, and SOny DDU1621 DVDROM.

Hide CDR needed on burners obviously.

Can also make copy using virtually any Liteon burner or DVD-Rom as reader and Aopen CRW-5232 as writer using DiscJuggler

The Aopen drive is based upon a Ricoh chipset.

I've only tried it with BW 4.5.7.92, and an older version of Alcohol, can't remember the version, but both copies worked fine.

I can't see why there would be problems with newer version.

The method I found best overall was:

Use a Liteon drive (52xxx series CD burner, or 411 or 811 DVD burner to read the disc under DiscJuggler (as per Futureproofs excellent article) (oops too many parentheses)))

Then write the DiscJuggler image with the Aopen drive.

Foolproof.

Next week I will order an Aopen 5232 because games as Crazy Taxi 3 or Rugby League with safedisk 3.15 are turning me crazy.

I hope a nice combination with ASUS 5224A or liteon 52327S+Aopen 5232 will be fine for this task.

... and while you are getting the Aopen writer, you might like to think about a Liteon DVD-ROM, the XJ-HD166S is, in my opinion the best one on the market, it breezes through all the copy protection (It WILL work with Liteon made copies of SD 3.15, and SecuROM (twinpeaks method).

Good luck too with the Aopen drive.

I have already a liteon dvd-rom, it is the ltd-165h model (previous model to 166s). I am vey happy with it except when I want to read recorded dvd media where the speed is low and I use my toshiba SDM-1612 to read them at full speed (using a hacked fw)

I hope that buy this Aopen drive will be a good choice.

I too have a Liteon 165H DVD-ROM, and it has problems reading the copy of the SD 3.15 games.

With the 166S drive, it is quite happy with copies made with the 52327S, the Asus 5224 and also the Aopen drive.

Hello everybody,

this is my first reply and I would like to thank all cdfreaks members. I'm reading this forum for about one year and
I learned so much from all of you .
Especially about Recording Software and Copy Protections.

So after this here are my results:

Game: Universal Combat (Safedisc 3.15.010)
Device: read and write with my plex premium fw 1.05

1. with Alcohol 1.4.8.122

-profile safedisc 3.1
-EFM correction disabled
-read speed 4x and write speed 10x

works in my plex and my pioneer, hide atip in alcohol enabled.

2. with BlindWrite 5.1.1.128

I used this profile:

[BW5]
decrypt=0
weaksector=1
autoplay=0
maxreadspeed=1411
cdwritespeed=2117
dvdwritespeed=2117
onreaderror=0
subfordata=-1
subforaudio=-1
topologyread=0
writetopology=0
topologyspeed=2117
profilename=Safedisc3

got this profile from a guy in the copybase forum "www.copybase.ch", thanks a lot alpha011!
works also in my plex and my pioneer, hide atip in alcohol enabled.

By the way I got two questions but I'm not sure if this the correct thread. So if not I would like to apologize for this little mistake.
Does somebody know what the "decrypt" and the "onreaderror" feature in the BW5 profile is about?
And I think it would be nice if people publish their BW5 profiles so everybody can use them. Or is there already a

place to find them? Looked for it, but I had no luck.

Thanx for your attention

Nice results Kalas about your plextor Premium; I will try that profile at Blindwrite.

In other hand I am getting similar results here with an Aopen CRW-5232 of a friend (I am trying it before to have it).
Jackass may be this drive is a bit better writing Safedisk 3.15 games than my others cd-recorders (it is a good sign for future fw). But I am having the same problems trying to make a second copy of first backup

In general I think that this cd-writer will be a good combination with an Asus or liteon cd-writer in order to backup safedisk 3.15 and future versions, but making second backups can have problems.

Greeetings there

All drives have some limitations

Making a backup of a backup sounds a little "naughty" to me.

The copies made with the Aopen drive are still not perfect, they just work in a slightly wider range of drives.

The Aopen drive makes a lousy reader for BWA Builder, you can't use it to read a disc with DiscJuggler (although I expect that this is a bug with DiscJuggler).

However, the Aopen drive is a fabulous Audio ripper, it has very good fast error skip with BlindWrite, and we know it is a pretty damn good writer, for protected and non-protected CD's. And it has very very good media compatibility. Disc recognition times are very quick too.

I very much like the Liteon 52327S, and the Asus 5224 (despite having to use fw 1.1 and sacrificing media compatibility), they both have their good and bad points too.

My next drive may just be the newly released Teac DVD Writer.
Apparently it does it ALL (inc SD3.15)

Cheers.

>Making a backup of a backup sounds a little "naughty" to me.

Usually it is but not always. For example, it's legal where it is desired to make a further back-up where the licensed original has been lost, damaged or destroyed.

Btw, tests with my Asus CRW-5224A demonstrate that, on my system at least, the most reliable way of making a backup of a backup where any recent version of safedisc is the protection used is to:
  • Make the image with CloneCD ensuring that FES is set to auto (note that this is important as "phantom" read errors inevitably occur if it is just set to "on").
  • Write the image with alcohol using safedisc 1 datatype settings (i.e. Bypass efm error unchecked).

Making the image with CloneCD with FES set to auto has proven to me to be by far the most reliable way of making a good image from a back-up copy. Practically all other image making methods result in "phantom" read errors occuring with the result that the image is bad.

Guys,

Just for your info - you should be aware that SafeDisc incorporate some kind of weird fading system - where copies of copies end up almost useless...

I'm sorry i dont know more - but will try and find out - but it could explain the problems you are experiencing !

Cheers

it's never been a problem

now using "dodgy" cd keys for online gaming...that 's a different story

edit: tested it today on an Artec DHI-G40 fw:1.32 works fine, no emulation!
