Have a look at kalas' guide though you can probably now do it just with the latest version of alcohol.

Hi,

Sorry to bring this back after 1 week, but I was googling specifically for emualting GTA 4 DVD and found this.

well I have tried all the steps mentioned in that guide for making a virtual disc and running it from a virtual drive, but am not getting desired result.

Details:
System:

* Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (Build 2600)
Processor info: Intel(R) Core 2 Duo 4300 (1.8GHz)
Memory Available to Windows: 3 GB

Software:

* Alcohol 52% Free Edition 1.9.8.7117
* DAEMON Tools: DAEMON Tools Lite v4.30.2 (with SPTD 1.56)

Tools

* Pr0t.St0p v1.1
* Y.A.S.U v1.5.8111
* Windows Device Manager

Hardware:

* Sony DVD RW AW-G170A (Present in Alcohol's Supported Drives List)

Game:

* Grand Theft Auto (SecuROM 07.38.0014):
did NOT check with Protection ID, got this info from Daemon Tools' Games Database

Well, here's what I did (quoting from kalas' guide linked above)
Quote:
* For DVDs
* Start Alcohol open the Image Making Wizard
* Choose your optical drive with your DVD you want to backup
* For SafeDisc protected games don't change anything in the settings
* For SecuROM protected games tick Data Position Measurement, Precision: High
* Click Next and choose the Image Location where you save your image
* Hit Next and set your Measuring Speed for the DPM function which will just appear for the SecuROM settings not for SafeDisc settings (Alcohol support recommends Measuring Speed Maximum for the best result using DVDs)
Did everything as mentioned, except for the part where I need to select the Measuring Speed. I had read somewhere, that the ideal measuring speed for DPM was 4x, so first I tried with 4x. But this was awfully slow!! it was taking 5 mins for just 1% (and this is a Dual Layer DVD with almost 7.5GB of data). So, I decided to try with 24x . Even with this, it took 40 mins to complete DPM.
Quote:
* While you're reading the DPM don't touch your PC and close all unnecessary processes, from my own experience you'll get a better result
* When the dumping process is done mount your image using DTools
* Now comes the 'tricky' part, for your SecuROM protected CDs use Y.A.S.U or ProtSt0p to hide your drives (read the readme files of each tool before using it!) before you start the game
Well, I have never used these two before and read the ReadMe a couple of times but didnt really get a very good idea of them. But here's what I did:
For YASU, copied the files to the DTools install folder and run it from there. When I click on cloak, it gives a message saying Cloaking done successfully.
For ProtSt0p: not sure if this is supposed to be used alongwith YASU or seperately, but tried both ways. Doesnt give any error both ways. Clicked on Cloak/Hide.
So, after this I should be able to run the game without the Original disc in the drive. But when I try to do that, Securom checks the disc and gives an error message with a link. On checking that link it says that it has detected a Emulation software like DTools or Alcohol 120 and so cant run the application.
Quote:
* For your SafeDisc protected CDs (this also works for SecuROM protected games without the tools I mentioned before!) these tools didn't work so you have to disable your IDE channel connected to your optical drives (CDRW, DVDRW, CDROM, DVDROM) in your device manager and then start the game Update: Y.A.S.U works with latest SafeDisc titles up to version 4.7
Tried this one too. Securom gives the same message about detecting a emulation software.

from the message, I feel that the cloaking softwares (YASU and ProtSt0p) arent really working, since Securom is able to detect the presence of DTools and Alcohol. So are these two outdated? Since Pr0t.St0p v1.1 was posted on 15-02-2007 and Y.A.S.U v1.5.8111 was posted on 23-11-2008.

Can someone please also specify what settings should be turned ON or OFF in DTools and Alcohol other than what Kalas has mentioned (if any).

I dont mind trying the other method of burning a copy of the DVD, but this is a Dual Layer DVD and right now I dont have any and dont think I can afford to waste many dual layer DVDs trying to get this to work.

BTW, just so that some jerk doesnt mention it, let me make it clear that I have the Original GTA 4 disc which I rightfully bought. I'm only looking to do this coz I'm really worried about the disc getting screwed up. GTA is a very long game and I'd probably be playing this for the whole of next month (working, so). I'm afraid that by the time I'm done with the game, the disc will probably be completely unusable. Been playing already for little over a week and already I can see some slight scrathes developing. Been so worried about this that for past 2 days I'm spending all my time trying to do this rather than play the game.

So request anyone who can help to please let me know if I'm doing anything wrong or if any software is outdated. Or if u guys know of any other better method or software, please help me out here..... and sorry for the VERY LONG post.

Latest version (.8111) of YASU works fine with Securom versions not higher than 7.38.0012, working with latest versions of Securom is not guaranteed. You can try also some older yasu versions (.8101, .7080, latest DT Pro 4.30.0303 with scsi or ide emulation. But I'm afraid you will not be able to make a working gta4 copy, just have to wait for new versions of yasu or DT...

Hi mbf-4,
Thanks for your reply.

I will surely try out my luck with versions you have mentioned and post the results tonight.

Even I feel that as of now, I have no choice other than waiting for a new version.

but are there any other software that can successfully hide from Securom 07.38.0014?

Thanks,
pretttt

You also may try latest Alcohol .7117 with acid (acid is similar to yasu), but I recommend latest DT Pro + yasu. And are there any "emulation" errors when you disable all emulation options in dt?. Try to install from the image, not original disk. Try to unplug your real dvd-drive.
And now there is no other soft that can beat latest versions of securom.

Hi,
great news!!

finally got it working with latest DTPro 4.30.0303(trial) + YASU (just like mbf-4 suggested).

didnt have to create any new image, just the one I had created earlier with Alcohol 52.

I guess what it needed was the vIDE from the latest DTPro.
tried with the default SCSI drive and also with vIDE from an older version of DTPro, but Securom detected both.

Obviously, without YASU, it detected even the latest DTPro vIDE.

Thanks for your help mbf-4

only problem now... DTPro trial is only for 20 days!!

cheers,
pretttt

Sorry people for bringing this up again but I've got the same problem as daire.

The DPM analysis of my GTA 4 disc stops at 55% in Alcohol52%.

Any solutions as to how to overcome this?

First of all one can try different DPM speeds.

If you cancel the DPM of the second layer Alcohol usually saves the DPM information of the first layer
- which is enough for SecuROM.
But there is a bug in the last versions so that nothing of the DPM is saved at all.

Try whether the attached mds file is working with your GTA version (just create image with 'Normal DVD' profile and change mds file). If it doesn't fit for your version, temporarily use an older version of Alcohol 52% to create your image, e.g. this one.

Ok sorry again for the late reply but I finally made the image of the gta 4 disc 1. I also installed latest version of daemon tools pro advanced 4.30.0305 with SPDT v1.58 on windows vista 32-bit.
I copied YASU 1.5.8111 to the installation folder. However, when I run YASU, it keeps saying that daemon.dll and dtpro.dll was not found.
Even after running a search, I couldn't find either of these two files (although Daemon Tools Pro advanced trial works perfectly).

What could be the problem? Please help me out

(Oh by the way, I tried with ProtStop as well and it either gives me an error or says that there is nothing to hide).

Those files aren't present anymore in latest DT versions.
Just use the latest YASU version 1.6.9040 and it'll work.

I tried it again with the latest version of YASU that you mentioned. However, now, when I mount the image with DTPro and YASU, it keeps telling me to insert the original disc instead of the backup disc.
(By the way, the image that I mounted with DTPro is the image that I created with CloneCD, NOT Alcohol 52%. )

What should I do now? (Thanks a lot for your help!!)

Terramex you are a genius!! I finally got it working!!
I figured out that there were 2 problems:
1. I was not using the MDS file that was attached in post 10. I was using the incomplete one that I created when DPM analysis stopped at 55%.
2. I was creating an SCSI virtual drive instead of an IDE virtual drive.

Thanks again for all the help!

@tommykent1210
- Create an image of your Original GTA IV disc using the 'Normal DVD' profile in Alcohol's Image Making Wizard
- you now have a mdf-, and a mds-image file; overwrite your own mds with the attached one
- mount image in a virtual drive of latest Alcohol/DTools
- cloak virtual drive using latest ACID/YASU

@FreakYa
The best way to achieve that is to split the image at creation:

In Alcohol 52/120% there is an option in Image Making Wizard called Seperate Image file every:
In DAEMON Tools Pro it's in Properties of the Disc imaging window -> Split file:

You will get three files; the MDS descriptor file and two image files )MDF and MD0) containing the data.
You can burn those files with any premastering software (like e.g. Nero) as a Data DVD.

No, you can't (and must not) change the installation sequence.
A divided image can only be mounted when all its files are in the same folder/path.
So you can't mount the images directly from the 4 DVDs. The files have to be copied to HDD first to install/play. So this mainly serves archiving purpose, e.g. with this layout:

DVD1: GTA IV Disc 1.mds + GTA IV Disc 1.mdf
DVD2: GTA IV Disc 1.md0
DVD3: GTA IV Disc 2.mds + GTA IV Disc 2.mdf
DVD4: GTA IV Disc 2.md0

If you want to install/play directly from DVD you have to use 2 DL DVDs.

Choose SecuROM in the Datatype drop-down menu of the Image Making Wizard.

P.S.: To just start the game you can additionally create a Mini image of the Play DVD which uses only some kb of HDD space - e.g. like this
