| I've tried to back up my copy of Sims 3 using latest version of imgburn on Server 2008 x64 with TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182D burner with latest firmware update. Copied the .iso/image at 1x speed the second time. Book set DVD-R DL How do I get a DL DVD backup burned that passes the disc check of the game? Can imgburn handle 'DVD Check'? If not, what will? Two coasters so far ![]() Sims 3 DVD authentication failure log: Quote:

| @audioaficionado I've just sacrificed 2 DL blanks as well ![]() First one with ImgBurn just like you + i activated the 'Ignore media type' option in Alcohol 120% -> doesn't work Second (working) one i read & wrote with the Safedisc profile of Alcohol 120% (i know it isn't Safedisc, but the settings are ok that way). Before you insert such copy you have to activate the RMPS emulation of Alcohol or DAEMON Tools. P.S.: i know earlier i said to not use RMPS, but in another context, and RMPS has more than that one feature of emulating the SecuROM signature. For Sims 3 you need it to really make it look like a DVD-ROM, and that works with e.g. the Safedisc profile. P.P.S.: if you don't want to spend a third blank you can also start the Sims 3 in Alcohol's/DAEMON Tools' virtual drive. This also works with a Mini Image (holding at least the first 2503 sectors, maybe less). EDIT: haven't looked properly at your log before . Maybe it's furthermore a problem with the burner/media combination.

| Thanx for the prompt response Terramex I'll try the Alcohol 120% virtual drive image first to see if it can be copied well enough to pass EA's DVD check algorithm before I commit another expensive DL blank. I'll post back with the results. |

| I should have tried burning before claiming it's just a "simple" DVD-Check. Didn't expect it to look for the disc type that thorough. Sorry for the coasters

| NP, I made those coasters before I came here for some help. Should have come here first ![]() I created the fake drive, mounted the .mds & .mdf and I was able to play Sims 3 without issue. Now I have to roll the dice on another DL blank. Heck, I might as well because buying another Sims 3 game disk would pay for lots of coaster attempts. |

| The only way I can get the DL DVD to work is to emulate RMPS during the copy and burn process and have either Daemon tools or Alcohol installed with RMPS enabled. Otherwise I can't produce a DVD that passes the DVD Check. So the easiest way is to just install Daemon Tools and mount that image I created in Alcohol. I wish there was a way to create an exact copy on DVD that works like the factory disc. Any other suggestions? |

I wish for the same! Could any of you guys give some good suggestions? I don't mind paying (just this time) for some commercial package, but I only want to know if I'm buying the right one. A friend of mine suggested Nero, but after some Googling around I also found AnyDVD to be related? Or is there some free program that also does the trick? |

| There is no way to burn an exact copy of a copy protected game dvd that will work like the original without some form of emulation as a result of the inability of dvd burners to burn in raw mode.

| Since I started a thread in the wrong forum, I'm asking the question again here - soorry for being so n00bish ![]() Hi! I have purchased a legal version of the game Sims 3, but because it was quite pricy I would like to make a backup copy. I don't know the technical details about the Sims 3 Copy Protection - I'm just trying to copy and back up Sims 3 . ![]() I have several other games, so I would not mind investing in some sort of (commercial) sofware. ![]() Problem is: I don't know which one to buy? ![]() I have heard of Nero, DVDFab, AnyDVD - but which one is the right solution for me? Or do I need something else? I already have a PC with DVD Burner, so that should be okay right? |

| @Dezign Nero isn't capable of backing up most modern protection schemes. DVDFab + AnyDVD are not suitable for backing up software but their purpose is to remove movie copy protections. As already mentioned in this thread you can either create a disc image of your Sims 3 DVD and mount that in a virtual drive (e.g. using Alcohol or DAEMON Tools Pro), or you can burn an emulated physical backup to a double layer DVD. Latter can be achieved by reading and writing with the Safedisc datatype of Alcohol 120%. Before loading the backup you need to activate the RMPS emulation option - have a look here. P.S.: if you don't want to burn DVD backups but only use virtual discs the free edition of Alcohol 52% is enough for your needs

| I know this post is a bit old (found it via google search) but I wanted to suggest to both of you to use GameJackal Pro. It's insanely easy to use and I never have to use discs or disc images Hasn't failed on a single game yet, although I haven't tried Sims 3. However, if it works for every game I have so far (I have a decent amount), why not that one as well?As well, Alcohol 120% is great for backing up games. I use it when I decide that I want an actual backup on top of using GameJackal. So far though I haven only made one backup. I really don't see the point since GameJackal works great. And it doesn't use huge image files. ![]() Like I said I only suggest this because I am a big gamer and get sick and tired of scratched discs or even inserting discs period. But I also hate consuming all of my hard drive to save three CD's or one DVD for each game. I put a lot of money in what I got and I want it to work the way I choose. Not what the disc will tell me I can do. Hope this helps! |
