| 1st off i hope i am posting this in the correct section. if not feel free to move it. now i have tried backing up this game several times (Asia Pacific Version). my system specs are: Windows 98 SE (4.10, Build 2222) B AMD Duron Processor, MMX, 3DNow, 700MHz 128MB RAM NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro 32 MB RAM VIA AC'97 on board audio i also have an old sound blaster card in my computer which i use when playing old games that have CD music. LG CDRW/DVD combo drive HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4521B (52x32x52x 16x DVD) - set as secondary master Sony CDU4811 (48x) CD-ROM drive - set as secondary slave DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0b (4.09.0000.0902) i use the Sony drive to rip the image of disc 1, and disc 2 has no protection. i know that this game (disc 1) has SafeDisc v2.90.040 protection as i have used Aray scanner to detect it. i have tried using Alcohol 120% to backup it up. i used the SafeDisc 2/3 data type and that didn't work. then i tried using BlindWrite with the nibble option and nothing else ticked. i had the read speed at min 40x, and max 40 respectively. that didn't work either. then i tried CloneCD with the Game CD profile 1st and that didn't work. then i tried it with the Protected Game CD profile and that didn't work either. i even tried DiscDump to rip the image and then FireBurner to burn it but that didn't work either. and for disc 2 i just did a standard copy using BlindWrite with the nibble option and nothing else ticked. i had the read speed at min 40x, and max 40 respectively. so can some1 help me as i am getting very frustrated not being able to make a backup of this game. incidently i was able to make a backup of Carmageddon TDR 2000 with Alcohol 120% with the SafeDisc 2/3 data type and this game also uses SafeDisc 2 protection. there was no sub number like SafeDisc 2.xx.xx for this game though. so how come i could make a backup of Carmageddon TDR 2000 and yet i can't get a working backup of Jedi Knight Jedi Academy? |

| If i remember your LG drive is 2 sheep. In that case, use the SafeDisc (Not 2/3) datatype and burn at 4x. Also remember that if you are running your copy from your burner you must enable "Ingore Media Type" in the emulation options menu in Alcohol. Good Luck! (P.S See if CD-RWs work).

| thanx for ur help. and i have only being using CD-RWs as that way i don't get any coasters (well unless i have a buffer underrun which has only happened to me once so far).i run the copy also from the Sony drive as i don't want my burner's lense to wear out too quickly. do i need to rip at 4x aswell? |

| Wouldn't do the world of harm if you did read it slower, but it shouldn't really matter.

| but then why do i have to burn it at 4x? is there any particular reason? b/c i have burnt all my other games at 40x (including Carmageddon TDR 2000). |

| Burning at slower speed like 4x often ends in a better result, for example: Quote:

| i forgot to mention that this is the error message i get when trying to run the copy i have made: This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor. i clicked on details and this is what it has in there JASP caused an invalid page fault in module ~DF394B.TMP at 0197:01f248ed. Registers: EAX=00004ffe CS=0197 EIP=01f248ed EFLGS=00010212 EBX=00000008 SS=019f ESP=01a9ee00 EBP=01a9ee0c ECX=01128000 DS=019f ESI=014a45e4 FS=125f EDX=00000007 ES=019f EDI=00000d55 GS=0000 Bytes at CS:EIP: 0f b7 44 08 02 d1 e8 83 c0 07 99 f7 fb 03 f0 47 Stack dump: 01f90dcc 01fbf8b0 020b6070 01a9ee2c 01ede319 00005004 41021348 00000000 01f90dcc 020fde50 020b6070 01a9eeac 020b6050 00400000 00000000 00030047 this does mean it's a non-successful copy doesn't it? |

| ~DF394B.TMP I believe this error message means that the bad sectors on the disc were not burnt successfully or with great enough accuracy by your burner. It maybe that your burner cannot do safedisc 2.9 successfully. Have you tried enabling alcohol's "bad sector emulation" or do you want a non-emulation backup? p.s. have you tried any of these methods for backing up safedisc? http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=99896 |

| yes, i want a non-emulation backup. i'll try those methods and c if it works, thnx. |

| You could try reading the image with CloneCD with your LG combo drive and using this profile to read with: (copy and paste into the profiles section of CloneCD install directory) [CloneCD ReadPrefs] ReadSubData=1 RegenerateData=1 ReadSubAudio=1 AbortOnReadError=0 FastErrorSkip=2 ReadSpeedData=8 ReadSpeedAudio=8 IntelligentBadSectorScan=0 SectorSkip=50 NoErrorReport=0 FirstSessionOnly=0 AudioQuality=2 [CloneCD WritePrefs] DontRepairSubchannelData=0 AlwaysCloseLastSession=0 AmplifyWeak=0 WriteSpeed=8 Then use a cd-rw and burn the image with your LG and alcohol, using the "safedisk" datatype and burning at 4x. Make sure you have "ignore media type" checked in alcohol to run your backup from. |

| as i said above i want a non-emulation copy. but thnx for ur help. i tried the CloneCD method in the link u posted but it didn't work with that method either. now i have another problem. i tried to back up my Half-Life Blue Shift CD today. (the one that has Blue Shift, Opposing Force and the Hi Def pack). but it didn't work properly. in Alochol 120% at about 65% into the image ripping it said read error or something (i don't remember the exact error message). but i burnt the image anyway, to a re-writable disc. then i installed it and it didn't work the 1st time. then i un-installed it and erased the disc. then i burnt the image to the re-writable again. i installed it and this time it worked. but then when i went to burn it to a CD-R it didn't work. the setup program stopped responding so i think that my original Blue Shift disc is damaged. oh and yeah, i did a scan with A-Ray and ClonyXL and they didn't detect any protection. so can any1 help with this? |

| i used the following setup to copy, (i think, its been a while) [CloneCD ReadPrefs] ReadSubData=yes RegenerateData=no ReadSubAudio=yes AbortOnReadError=no FastErrorSkip=yes ReadSpeedData=max ReadSpeedAudio=max (or lower, but there is no CD-audio so it doesnt matter) IntelligentBadSectorScan=yes SectorSkip=100 NoErrorReport=doenst matter, but no so you can see error FirstSessionOnly=doesnt matter AudioQuality=doesnt matter for the audio reason [CloneCD WritePrefs] DontRepairSubchannelData=yes AlwaysCloseLastSession=yes AmplifyWeaksectors=no WriteSpeed=doesnt matter, but slower is better the biggest point is to not regenerate or repair subchannel data. safedisk uses "bad sectors" to prevent copying, therefore you need to keep these sectors. the second part is you should make the images with your combo drive as burners can read protections better. you should burn this image with clone. alternativel if you have alcohol 120% then you can do a copy with that be selecting safedisk2/3 in the data type for the read and write KAL |
