well, i think it would be much easier to program something that would just create an ISO of the dvd.

Yes. I agree. There is only 3 things I would like to see with DVD2ONE and in this order:

1) Ability to create an ISO image. Since we use DVD Decrypter to rip anyway, I can use that to burn back. Currently I use ImgTools to make the .iso, but it sucks having to create a virtual drive first. I'd just like DVD2one to create the .iso.

2) Some kind of better encoding method. Perhaps two selections available like "good [faster]" and "better [slower]". I saw a website where the DVD2one bits where analysed and it shows a much greater bitrate at the beginning of the film than at the end. A more even reduction is needed.

3) I generally like some kind of menu. I like the chapter selection menu. All the extras I can do without. I don't know how the author could do it, but keeping just the chapter selection menu and a title screen would be absolutely great!

But I love this application!

I agree since there's less of a chance to mess up anything. However, why do you need to use ImgTools? I thought simply dropping the VIDEO_TS folder and burning as a UDF was enough?

I thought this is how DVD2ONE worked?

Yeah, maybe soemthing that allowed you to "rip" the menu and change it around or create a brand new one. Sounds kinda complex.

How would that work anyway? Aren't you restricted to compressing based on a single IFO file? You can't select multiple titles, so what good is a menu (unless you want a chapter search screen).

I'm just saying that if DVD2one could write an .ISO file, one wouldn't have to use a 3rd program to write the DVD (and worry about compatibility problems that Nero sometimes has).

DVD Decrypter to read. DVD2one to process. And DVD Decrypter to write again.

The website that analysed DVD2one's ouput found that the bitrate was not lowered "universally". Instead, the beginning half of the film had unusually high bitrate compaired with the last half of the film, which was unusually low. In other words, as you watch, the quality slowly deminishes.

DVD2one needs improvement here for a more "across the board" reduction in the bitrate, so the quality states the same throughout the film.

Here is the website. The graphs show everything:

Yes, that is what I want, a chapter screen. That's what I was talking about, hence the "I like the chapter selection menu" paragraph. I also noted that I have no idea how the author would implement such a feature. It *would* be very complex. I envision an application (probably not DVD2one) that shows the menu. Here we can click on what options we want "enabled". The software would then automatically disable and remove the features we did not choose. Hey, I can wish, can't I?
