CloneDVD Discuss, Sudden Problem with CloneDVD2 at Movie copy software forum; I've backed up hundreds of movies without any issues (or coasters). Last night, I opened a new stack of 8X blanks from Fugi, the first one was a coaster, and the second one froze two thirds into the movie and fourth and fifth seem fine. Different movies, and the discs

I've backed up hundreds of movies without any issues (or coasters). Last night, I opened a new stack of 8X blanks from Fugi, the first one was a coaster, and the second one froze two thirds into the movie and fourth and fifth seem fine. Different movies, and the discs burned faster than ever before. Any thoughts, I geussing the media but I've used Fugi before without any problems. Am going to try burning at only 4x and see if that makes a differnce.

Well if you hadn't problems before with fuji, it could be you had the YudenT02's, and now it's possible that you have the Ritek ones.

@ Southern Comfort,

FujiFilm like many other retailers of DVD Media don’t actually manufacture the DVD Media themselves but mass bulk purchase the Media from various DVD Media manufacture and them re-package the DVD Media and place their name on the package. The FujiFilm DVD Media that states Made In Japan is top of the line DVD Media manufacture by Taiyo Yuden. The FujiFilm DVD Media that states Made In Taiwan is suspect media manufactured by Ritek and should be avoided.

It appears that your latest purchase of FujiFilm DVD Media was the DVD Media manufactured in Taiwan by Ritek. To confirm this use either DVD Identifier (http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com) or DVD Info (http://www.dvdinfopro.com/) and post the MID (Manufacture ID and Media Code) of the FujiFilm DVD Media that is giving you problems.

Best Regards,
bjkg

Very true.
(MID) Fijifilm 03 (made in Taiwan) - for instance - is not a reliable media at all, unfortunalety, especially when it comes to -R media.

Usually anything made in japan is the best.

Also verbatim are good media, but be careful: there are some prodisc verbatim that are not good (if I'm not wrong these are marked as verbatim white pearl): choose only MCC media.

Thanks! Like I said, I've been burning for at least three years, starting with DVD X Copy (now defunct) and hadn't had this problem since the beginning, but as drives get faster and blanks cheaper, it goes to figure. I have a new NEC3550 16X dual mode DL I can't wait to install!

@ Southern Comfort,

Yes Sir Absolutely!

As a loyal paying customer you have every right to expect a major retailer to stand behind all the merchandise that that they sell.

Take all your crappy Ritek R03 FujiFilm media back to Best Buy and demand at complete total refund.

The Ritek R03 media is poor quality and you might be successful in getting an acceptable burn but the media will deteriorate in a short period of time and the data will become un-retrievable. It’s best just to return the Ritek R03 FujiFilm back to Best Buy and get a refund.

Suggest visiting Rima.Com (http://www.rima.com) and purchase top of the line known high quality Taiyo Yuden media. They have very reasonable prices on their Taiyo Yuden media.

Suggest visiting the CD Freaks Blank Media Forum (http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33) for information concering DVD media.

Best Regards,
bjkg

In my experience RICOHJPN-R03 are rather variable in quality. If you get a good batch, then go for it, but latest box I bought was a very bad batch (about half were bad quality score and 4-5 were coasters).

These burned with no problem, although slow (14 min. with an 8x burner). On the upside, Best Buy gave me full credit with no hassles on the crap FUJI media. Thanks!!
