CloneDVD updates

I love AnyDVD, and was planning to purchase CloneDVD, but I noticed that you only get one year of updates. Do you have to pay another $40 every year? How does that work?

CloneDVD2 has been out for a couple of years now and to date no one has been charged for updates.

only a year?? Last i noticed.. it stated that your key would expire in 2050 ... something like that? I think if found that in the faq's

Nope - they state 1 year - but as of yet, no-one has ever been charged for updates - I believe Elby (the authors) wanted to reserve the right to charge in case they bring out different versions - or something like that!!

Here is what the Slysoft web site says:-

When you purchase one of our products you will receive the following:
A registration key that prevents the trial version from expiring after 21 days.
Technical support for one year
Free lifetime updates for AnyDVD and CloneCD
Free CloneDVD updates for one year

this thread is a few months old, but here is the answer straight from the horse's (sheep's?) mouth.

they've never charged for an update so far, and if they ever do have to the software is reasonably priced and has loyal users so I can't imagine the charge being that substantial. I'll take olli's word on them not charging unless they have to, and if that day comes, I'd gladly pay it.

That was exactly the post I was thinking of - but was far to lazy to search for it!! Well done for remembering it - extra Xmas presents should have came your way!!

I've used CloneDVD for 2+ years and never been asked for more $ while updating so far, and I bought the software (and update) from Elby.
