Hi, I am new to this forum so please be gentle...

I have been using CloneDVD (2.8.5.1) and AnyDVD (5.5.1.1) to backup my DVDs for a while now without any problems.

I recently tried to backup a R2 version of Kung Fu Hustle (an ex-rental copy from Blockbuster) which did not work (it is one of these red disks). Subsequently, I have not been able to backup any other disks.

What happens is that I start up AnyDVD as usual, then input the DVD. I then open CloneDVD and go through the first couple of screens without any problems, but when I get to the screen where you try to rip the disk the program just hangs.

Can anybody help me with this?

Welcome to the forum.

Have you added any software recently?

If not, it's possible CloneDVD is corrupted. Try uninstalling it then reinstall and see if that corrects the problem.

You didn't state if any new software was added.
Also what other DVD related burning software do you have installed.

You can try this, if using Windows XP, in the Start\Run box type in "msconfig", without the quotation marks. Then click on the startup tab. Make note what programs are checked off in there. Then click disable all and hit apply, then OK.
XP will reboot and see if the problem is corrected.

If corrected, one by one. check the boxes you previously noted as checked until you isolate what program is conflicting. If you have any Anti Virus programs running I suggest you disable it before burning.

I don't think I have put any new software on. I will give your suggestion a go tomorrow and let you know what happens.

Cheers!

I'm new here also and came here seeking help with a very similar problem.

I tried to backup my Kung Fu Hustle using DVD Shrink 3.1.7 and it hung up at 9%. That was on my XP machine.

So I tried it on my old Windows 98 machine, and had the same problem.

Now here's the real problem: I cannot burn any CDs or DVDs on EITHER computer!! The buffer meters fluxuate all over the place, whereas they used to be stable. There has got to be something on that Kung Fu Hustle CD, some kind of copy protection software or something that is messing with my drives, right?

I don't even care about backing up the movie anymore, I've got the disc anyways. But I really would like to get my drives fixed!

Shrink gives a navigation error all the time now and I cannot even burn a regular music CD without getting hundreds of buffer underrun errors.

The real kicker here is that KFH messed up two different drives on two different computers and they now both give the same errors.

Please help.... I'm desperate here and need to burn some family videos and cannot do so.

Thanks a million.

~DURAK

Let me know if you need any technical info or if you can just point me towards the solution that'd be awesome.

AnyDVD 5.5.4.1/ CloneDVD 2.8.5.1 Can and will backup Kung Fu Hustle, as AnyDVD removes any copy protection from the disc. As far as DVD Shrink goes, the last and most recent version is 3.2.0.15, as the author of the program now is the programmer of Nero Recode 2. Use of an older version like that might possibly be the reason for the navigation errors, not to mention, that if you were using DVD Shrink alone to remove the copy protection on the disc wouldn't work anyway, atleast not on the newer more recent movies.

Knowledge is abundant, something you can never have enough of. I try to learn as much as I can about this stuff each day.

maybe a new kind of protection ?

do you have some executables files and an autorun on this DVD ?

if so; you have probably to format and next time; déactivate the damn autorun on your optical drives!

This is not necessary, as long you leave AnyDVD running all the time. AnyDVD will effectively prevent starting of applications from Video DVD or Audio CDs.

Sorry I haven't replied sooner, but I have been busy with work etc....

I have no problems in burning any normal DVDs or CDs. However, my version of AnyDVD and CloneDVD are still not working. CloneDVD still hangs when I get to the third screen in the program.

I have looked at the msconfig as suggested by itzbinnice, but that didn't seem to work.

Any other suggestions?

@ dr-white,

AnyDVD- CloneDVD are stable software programs and in a stable Widows Operating System perform their tasks correctly.

Why doesn’t MSCONFIG work? Please provide amplifying information.

You need to ensure that you don’t have any anti-virus programs and/or packet writing software programs running in the background interfering with the proper operation of AnyDVD- CloneDVD. Suggest completely removing any and all packet writing program from your Windows Operating System. These programs are noted for causing error conflict problems.

The following are examples of packet writing software programs –Drag-To-Disc, DirectCD, InCD, DLA (Drive Letter Access), CE Quadrant Just!Burn, FileCD, Sony abCD, InstantWrite, Backup4all, B's Clip, NeoClip, InstantBurn, Drag to Disc. This is not an extensive complete list, there are numerous others. Suggest firing up Google (http://www.google.com) and do a search for packet writing software programs, which should reveal an extensive comprehensive list.

Remove the AnyDVD-CloneDVD software programs from your system (later you will re-install). Ensure that you have a copy of your Registration Keys backed up and stored in a safe place.

You need to do some Hard Disk maintenance.

Run SpyBot-Search & Destroy (http://www.spybot.info) to remove any SpyWare that was inadvertently install on your system.

Do a Hard Disk cleanup. Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Clean Up.

Do a Hard Disk defragment. Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Defragmenter.

You need to run one of the Windows Operating System Registry cleaners to remove any remnants of any offending software. Suggest visiting Major Geeks (http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads15.html) and obtain one of the Windows Operating System Registry cleaners.

After performing all the above tasks visit SlySoft (http://www.slysoft.com) and download the latest versions of AnyDVD-CloneDVD. Please report back to the Forum and advise us of the status of your problem.

Best Regards,
bjkg

Once again I apologies for not getting back sooner...

I am still experiencing problems with CloneDVD not responding on the third screen.

I have done the following (as suggested):

1) Used the MSCONFIG trick, and unticked all the start up options, rebooted. The problem still persisted.
2) Uninstalled AnyDVD and CloneDVD and reinstalled them.
3) Cleaned up my registry.
4) Cleaned up my hard disk.
5) Run all the antispyware that I own.
6) Removed Sonic DLA (I think this is the only packet writing software that I have).
7) Turned off my antivirus and real-time antispyware.

However, CloneDVD still does not respond when I get to the third screen (the one with the writing options).

Please help!

Many thanks...

Go into the Device Manager and remove the Primary and Secondary IDE channels. Don’t be afraid XP will reinstall them after a reboot.
Then reboot and verify that devices 0 and 1 in Primary and Secondary IDE channels are set to use DMA mode.
