Yamaha CRW-F1

Is $200 for the F1 a good price, and when are you guys going to do a huge review of it?

I don't know if I may say this, but there is a review of the Yamaha coming. He has got a lot of work these days
200$? sounds much. I don't know what the drive can do exactly, but if it isn't any better than the lite-on or plextor, it seems a bit silly to pay that much for Disc T@2. Go to some online shops and compare the prices to see if they also cost 200$. Hope this helps.

Re: Yamaha CRW-F1

There 179$ here at Best Buy, (I think its still too much). From what i read about them and in the forums, I dont know if i would run out and get one just yet. Plextors 40x are going for 99$ at CompUsa (geting ready for the 48-24-48 plex i guess). I would wait a bit if you really want one. I think they will come down in price big time and fast.

I got one and took it back. It burned everything I threw at it, but it didn't do anything better than my 40x Plex or 32x Lite-on. Didn't use the "disk tatoo" thingy.

One thing that pissed me off was the jump from 16x to 44x in record speeds. It will not let you set your own record speed other than 16x or 44x. No 20x, 24x, 32x, 40x. If the OWSC is enabled and you set the record speed at 44x, it records the disk as fast as it thinks is safe. This is slower than I can record the exact same media at when I use my Plex or Lite-on. I use the Nero SpeedDisk "Scan Disc" app to check my burned disks for errors. The ones I can record at faster speeds on my Plex and Lite-on show zero errors, so why is Yamaha capping my burn speeds lower with these same disks?

It is more carefully. Maybe you know that LiteOn 48x reports too high speeds for most media.
