You can get a copy of "Motherboard Monitor 5" (MBM-5) HERE , check the list of supported boards to see if yours is supported. (it has to have sensors on it). The most reliable method is to pick up any of the various temp sensors that mount in the front case bays, and place a sensor under your heat sink next to the CPU.
BTW, the MBM web site is down right now.

How do you guys measure the temps? I've installed CPUCOOL, and I've got three readings: Temp 1, Temp 2, Temp 3. The readings of Temp 1 and Temp 2 are always 25. But Temp 3 can go from 42 to 65. When I am doing nothing (Idle), it's 41. But if I am playing games, it can go as high as 65. There are two fans installed inside the case, but they don't seem to change any of the readings. Well, I've been reading from this thread, and it seems to me everyone here is a pro. So please teach me if I say anything stupid. Thanks.

most easy way is to check your bios hardware monitor
with the most current bios versions you can see the cpu temp and case temp .

personally im using intel LANDesk manager.
very nice program with lots and lots of handy information for your system.
but i think it only works on an intel mobo (my mobo is an Intel E7505VB2 Vero Beach) didnt try the program on an other mobo.

but another program that works with the most mobo's is motherboard monitor.

All black huh? The only other all black heatsink that can give you that kind of cool is made by Alpha. And if it's an Alpha, it's not painted or dyed, but anodized. I have Alpha 8045 on 2 AMD systems (XP1700 and XP1800). I'm waiting for the retail Barton 2500+ ($115) to be back in stock for my new system (MSI K7N2 Delta). Will put a Thermalright SLK-800(A) on it for cooling.

I know, but this one was really dyed... cheap stuff

The SLK-800 seems to be a very good cooler. I guess you want to OC your system, right?

I bought a pair of SLK-800s a few months back intended for a MP system (MSI K7D Master, pair of xp2100 mod to MP), but bought an Mac G4 dual 1.25G instead. Maybe I'll get the AMD MP system later this year.

Anyway, gonna just do some minor OC w/ the barton by raising the multiplier from 11x to 12x, taking it to 2G.

I need to get a bigger cooler, the SK-7 i currently use isn't keeping up now that the A7N8X has allowed me to CRANK my XP-2600. Load temps are approaching 65'C, idle 50'C I'm thinking about the SLK-800.

The SK7 is a very good HS to begin w/. Have you thought about getting a higher output fan first? I'm using panaflo 80mm high fans which pump out 39.6 CFM @ 32 db. Very efficient on the task w/o the noise.

If you're looking at getting the SLK-800A, check out svcompucycle.com. $34 + $4.70 s/h (add tax if in Cali). Very reliable seller w/ excellent prices just like newegg.com.

I'm using a 80mm Antec remote smart fan that tops out at around 40cfm. Will likely stay with that or go to the Thermaltake remote smart fan. Or I suppose I could just turn the CPU down a notch......nah.

I've got a 550-watt Antec power supply. I hope it can solve many of my previous problems with power supplying and cooling.

Sure will. Bought a Antec True480 when the original 300w that came w/ the Antec case die. This baby is rock solid. It'll be more than enough to run an AMD MP system, which was my intend when I bought the PSU.

Oh yeah baby, got my new system up and running. Barton is the shit! Current system -

MSI K7N2 Delta-L (BIOS v5.1)
Barton 2500+ @ 2800+
- 12.5x166
- vcore 1.70
- Thermalright SLK-800 w/ AC3 and Panaflo 80mm High 40CFM @ 32dba
(2)256MB OCZ PC2700 (2-3-3-6)

Core tempt after 24hr Prime95 torture test is 31C. Yes, 31C load. Well, I do have a 9" circular desktop fan rotating on low setting, blasting at the side of the case. Time to take this bad boy up another notch. 13x166 here I come.

Stoner....was wondering how much you paid for the CPU and MB, and if you were planning on OCing more??

CPU: $96 (Retail package, bought a pair)
MB: $99 (Also retail)
HS: $20 (bought a pair)
Fan: $10 (also a pair)

CPU and MB are from Newegg.com, HS from SVC.com, Fan from 2Cooltek.com

Not gonna OC it anymore. I must be the most conservative OCer 'cause I only change the multiplier when I OC, while leaving the memory FSB as is. The Barton's currently running at smooth 2.09G, DivX encoding takes half the time as before, so I'm totally satisfied. Yeah, I know higher FSB = faster system, but I don't play much games aside from GBA and VDub doesn't like high FSB...

48'C idle is fine, if you see more than 10'C increase at 100% then you should look at better cooling, but temps in the low 60's at 100% are still acceptable. But it really depends on what you are measuring, socket or diode? Here, socket is 38'C and diode is 47'C as I type.

Post edited, the msi utility only says core temp. Also those tests were done without CoolerXP running, what exactly does that do anyway?
