Hi. First of all sorry for my english.
I have tried everything I could think about to solve my problem and nothing seems to help. The problem is that my mouse feels like I am moving it on ice and the response time to mouse movements on the screen is kind of delayed, also when i play for some time (about 10-15mins) things go even worse. I play only quake 3 but I have tried warsow just for test and the problem is also there and I even can feel this lag in windows. After trying tons of things to fix it I came to conclusion that its not software problem, also I am sure its not hardware problem cos I changed completely my pc to another one and same problems occurs there.
This is what I have tried to do:
1) of course to change the mouse /also keyboard (tried ms wmo 1.1a (which a lot of progamers use), logitech mx518, G5, razer deathadder) – so I think its definitely not the mouse.
2) All possible driver updates (also older one) for my chipset, videocard, sound etc… btw I don’t use drivers for mouse of course – as normal fps players don’t but even with them things doesn’t change much
3) First when I thought it was software problem I had tried a lot of formatting and installing windows to hunt down the problematic software but nothing helped (I even tried win98 lol). Also I have tried a lot of fixes like some registry changes to remove windows mouse acceleration completely, setting usb rate above 125hz and so on.
4) Different PC (first I had celeron 2.2, 1024 ram, radeon 9600, now I have Pentium e2200 2.2Ghz, 2gb of ram and 8500GT, FSP Zen 400watt PSU (was at first some other fsp with 350watt) – yes its shitty setup I know but the game I play is quake 3 where I have constantly 125fps without drops
5) Its not the monitor problem and not input lag because even when I had crt I had this problem
6) I don’t have any other malfunctions with my pc – only this mouse lags. Also my temperatures are in the normal range and I use only one hdd and no more usb devices expect my keyboard and mouse.
I really want to solve this problem because firs of all I like to play quake and second I had put so much effort to do it so I want finally to know what is causing it. I know start to think that I have bad power supply in my house (lol) but this is really just a guess because I don’t have any knowledge about that kind of things. So if you people have any advice on the problem I would be very glad to here some.

Hi and Welcome!

stupid question: have you tried the mouse on another surface (mousepad, sheet of paper etc.)?

An optical mouse may behave erratic on glass surfaces.

Thanks for replying. I am using razer mantis control. I have also tried a simple cheaper pad and my table by that didn’t help. How do u think what else can i try – i just don’t imagine what is the reason but can this be because of bad power supply(not the psu but from my outlets)?

Hey quaker99 i have the exact same problem... on 3 different pc's... i might have a solution for you that worked for another guy with the same problem as us... however it didnt work for me

If you have any extention cables plugged into eatchother anywere in your house... deplug them and see if thers a change also change your screen energy profile to "always on"... it is indeed a power issue... i finally know what it is... but i have no clue how to fix it myself... let me know if it works for you

Connecting thru USB or PS2 ?
If USB it could be a bad USB Socket

First, check if there is virus in your computer.
Second, connect another optical mouse to your computer, if the speed is ok, then maybe there is problem with your optical mouse PCB board.
if there is same problem, then maybe there is problem with the USB port on your motherboard wich connect to the mouse. You should change a new optical mouse.

Wish you solve the problem ASAP.

Yes its true (for me at least) but also don’t know what to do with it. I think it occurs everywhere not just everybody notice and not everyone has that much lag as me, I think it varies.
I have secret idea:>>> how to solve this but I am having my exams now so I don’t really have time to try it.

Giving such advice looks like u even didn’t read what i had written in my first post. Thx for try though.

lol man… First try to read what ppl write. I said i have an idea how to fix it – not “secret answer” and i don’t know if it really works. I made this topic cos i don’t know much about pc hardware and electronics and my idea is just a guess which is based on some basic knowledge. If i had an answer i would have posted it long ago.

I would like to hear some advice from ppl that know such things. First would be great to hear the answer for the following question: can bad power supply (not bad psu but in the house) cause such mouse “lag” (something like mouse delay, bad tracking, kinda hard to explain but its very hard to aim in games with that lag) and how can we try to fix it. Why i think its bad power supply? When i plug power cord to a different outlet, plug it without extention cables, or even when i plug usb flash memory stick to usb port near my mouse – i can definitely say there is a change in mouse sensitivity and the “lag” can be somewhat reduced by this actions or become even worse… Thx for any replies on the topic.

Hmmm. A really bad electricity installation may cause strange issues, agreed.
But then you should ask a skilled electrician to check that. This is nothing for DIY.

Another thought: Have you already tried a Live Linux Disc?

Thx for reply. This is not software problem. I have even tried win98 (wich doesn’t have mouse acceleration as xp, though i always turn it off in xp) but the problem remains there. And also i have tried quite some formatting to know for sure its not software problem – have tried to install only some basic drivers and no other programs but the lag is there anyway. And its not any game related – it occurs even in windows. So i need to know only that question about powers supply.

To answer this question, the answer is no it can not. The function of a computer power supply is to take voltage from your home that is not usable and convert it to something that can be used by your system. Any flaky condition in your house power is isolated inside the power supply unit.

The one constant that I see is all of your mice are USB, sounds more like a hardware compatibility issue, be it chipset, too many devices, some drive or other device on the SB that doesn't like the mice you have, etc.

Thx for your reply. Some people also told me that it cant be because of bad power supply but than some others told it can – so whom i should believe. And about hardware compatibility – i don’t think that its is possible because i have tried like ten mice (all gaming mice not some office ones) and also recently i completely changed my pc and it didn’t help. Also i use only one hdd – so i don’t think that south bridge is overloaded.

I concur Do not believe it is house current.

I say it would be time to try a ps2 type mouse, or cheap office mouse , even if it's just to find out if its a usb problem,or gaming mouse problem.

Take the computer to a friends house and plug it in there and see if the lag is still there.

Something else: Have you already tried a Live Linux system running off CD or DVD? This should help ruling out if the issue is Windows related.

man i am not noob i know about input lag. it happens on my old crt also.
Interesting thing my current lcd monitor doesn’t have option to lift it to adjust height so i had put some thick books under it AND my mouse “behavior” became much better? WTF? Can anyone pls explain this?

Did you always use the same VGA cable?

I guess, there is some problem with electromagnetic shielding.
Computer cases are closed and solid metal instead of plexiglass windows?

Even if it sounds strange:
Move computer and monitor temporarily into another room. What happens?
