| I have a problem (which seems to be affecting a number of ppl) I have a brand new system with a Plextor 712A installed, I have been able to load many games and watch many DVD's without a problem. However, I got HL2 on Tuesday, installed it fine, but when I go to launch the game - the disc seems to spool-up for a second or two, and then stops. It then does this repeatedly for about 30sec's until finally I get the message; unable to authenticate original disc within time limit I have managed to get it started after taking the CD out of the drive, putting it back in, letting auto-run kick in (which spools up the CD) and then hitting launch game at just the right moment... However this method is not ideal and takes about 10 attempts before it works! ![]() Related posts on the HalfLife forum have suggested that the problem is due to the Plextor (and other) drives having trouble reading the newest securom and safedisc releases... What do you guys reckon? Is this a Plextor problem, or a HL2 problem? I've upgraded my drive to the latest firmware (1.05?) makes no difference... Any ideas / suggestions etc much appreciated. Thanks, Adam. |
