General Hardware Forum Discuss, The new Toshiba SD-M1802 DVD Rom Drive at Hardware forum; Who as experience with the new DVD Rom drive put out by Toshiba ? The commercial info says "surpasses the DVD-ROM abilities of the previous model SD-M1712" But the only improvement I can see is: - the increased buffer size which is supposed to be 256kB (and the old SD-M1612

Who as experience with the new DVD Rom drive put out by Toshiba ? The commercial info says "surpasses the DVD-ROM abilities of the previous model SD-M1712"
But the only improvement I can see is:
    - the increased buffer size which is supposed to be 256kB (and the old SD-M1612 had already a buffer of 512 kB)
    - because the random seek time is 95 ms compared to 85 ms on both 1712 and 1612
    - the drive isn't given to read DVD-RAM's anymore
    - nothing is said about the capability of reading burned DVD+/RW
    - they say nothing about the future burned double layer DVD-R medias (the double layer burners are coming out in 2004 !)
    - I hope the new Toshiba SD-M1802 drive does still read correctly the data and audio subchannels of CD's (while using Clone CD for example)

If anybody has experience with this new drive please tell me, if not I will wait and see .. .
    Thanks a lot in advance
