I just bought some parts from newegg. Let me list them below. Maybe they will help.

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153052

Video: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127434

Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128359

Proc: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115059

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820148249

Okay, so I build this new computer and while installing the power connectors, I noticed that I had a 24 pin connector which fit, but I did not have a 8pin connector; only a 4 and a 6 pin, so I left the 8pin connection open.

Here is a picture of the 8pin http://www.arandomotaku.com/mobo.JPG

So I plug in my computer and it powered up fine, or so I thought. The monitor (CRT) light began to flash green on and off. It would not show any message saying no power or no connection. It was would just remain black. I connected it to my parents LCD screen and the same thing happened. I reseated the video card and ram just to make sure and made sure all connections were solid.

Afterwards, I checked to make sure everything was getting enough power. The HDD wasn't spinning up, nor was the CPU fan (debatable if it spins up right away or waits until it gets hot), and the cd rom would not open.

My questions are: Because I did not plug in that second power connector, is that why my box will not POST? Is this a sign that I just need a converter from 4pin to 8pin, or is this something more like a bad mobo, ram, hdd, or proc? Any insight would be appreciated.

Most likley it is because you didn't plug anything into the 8pin connector you
can still use the 4pin connector in the 8pin connector read the manual on page
23 and see what it says about using a 4pin instead of a 8pin power connector.

With the use of the power connector, the power supply can supply enough stable power to all the
components on the motherboard. Before connecting the power connector, first make sure the
power supply is turned off and all devices are properly installed. The power connector possesses
a foolproof design. Connect the power supply cable to the power connector in the correct orientation.
The 12V power connector mainly supplies power to the CPU. If the 12V power connector is not
connected, the computer will not start.
ATX
• Use of a power supply providing a 2x4 12V power connector is recommended by the
CPU manufacturer when using an Intel Extreme Edition CPU (130W).
• To meet expansion requirements, it is recommended that a power supply that can withstand
high power consumption be used (500W or greater). If a power supply is used that does not
provide the required power, the result can lead to an unstable or unbootable system.
• The ATX_12V_2X4 power connector is compatible with power supplies with 2x2 12V power
connector. When using a power supply providing a 2x4 12V and power connector, remove the
protective covers from the 12V power connector and the main power connector on the motherboard.
Do not insert the power supply cables into pins under the protective covers when using a power
supply providing a 2x2 12V power connector.

It did not have any protective covers on it.

Also, I am new to building computers now (built my last one 5 years ago), and some things are different from what I remember.

I will give this a go. I was just worried about plugging it in for some reason. The whole protective cover things confuses me for some reason.

Thanks for the help though. I'll try it tomorrow. I really hope that is the only reason I did not get a display

I have done this before used the 12v P4 4pin instead of a 8pin power connector you just have to plug it into one side of
the 8pin connector on the mobo I'm not sure which side you will need to use on that particular board though. You could
always do like you said before and go to a local computer shop and buy a 4pin to 8 pin adapter or get one from newegg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16812887002 but you would probably be able to get one a lot cheaper at
a local computer shop though than from newegg.

The 8 pin connector is keyed, so it will be really difficult for you to plug the 4 pin plug from your power supply into the wrong side, i.e. it will easily plug into one side and not so much the other.
